Eamon I love beetroot pickled but also hot as a veg, you can also put it in soups and cakes - the cake was very tasty! I also made risotto with beetroot that was quite nice too.

Never tried kale but our local supermarket has a whole new range of exotic veg.

Karl, the only time I saw Beets in baked goods was when I went to our local health food/ organic supermarket. It was a cake and it also had poppy seeds...yeechhhhhhhhhhh, but I guess the California Hippie crowd that hadn't gotten out of the 60's ate it up with their granola..ha ha!! Then again I can tollerate zucchini ice cream...

Don[t tell me you don't like zucchini either? (courgettes to our UK readers) I cook that regularly in my Chinese Hot Tossed Salad along with peppers, onion & carrrot, the sauce includes Sherry, White Wine Vinegar, Soy & Worcester Sauce , Ginger and a dash of sugar. D E L I C I O U S !!!!!!

Karl, no I actually love zucchini and also ocra. I love deep fried ocra then you eat it with hot sauce, hush puppies (those are like deep fried dough balls) and catfish or bbq ribs..

Is it ocra that's also known as ladies fingers? I've had that on my Stateside trips.

I have heard Okra [i thought it was spelt with a k"] called "Ladies Fingers"--I had a continental boyfriend who worked in a restaurant--that was many years ago, and he often mentioned it. I have never tried it myself. But I am guessing I would not like it.
