I know who we saw was THE Jack Jones anyway.
I'm not convinced the person that wrote in the Express even saw the show, to me it sounded as if she just spoke to some person coming out, or it had been sent in by someone who had obviously not see Jack before, and didn't understand his way of performing. He often gets songs in the wrong order, and has done for years, it's all part of the performance.
There's quite a lot of humour in his act, he's never been one of these singers who just stands centre stage and sings at his audience. He gets down amongst them if at all possible, and sometimes disappears right at the back of the auditorium.
His pianist was even looking for him at Croydon!
Jack saw the review and was very upset by it, as it contained hardly any reference to his singing, just un-informed criticism.
His singing was as good as ever, and each show a great entertaining evening.

I only ever saw the review in the "Express", and it would be a shame if that was the only one.
As I said before some of these reviewers are completely out of touch, so have no idea of the quality of a really good singer like Jack or JM, and they think they can write any sort of rubbish.
Who cares if they forget their words or make mistakes---they are only human. We have had many of these sour reviews on JM, but those at the concerts know the real truth.

Review: Jack Jones at Perth Concert Hall

JACK Jones and his Big Band came to Perth last Friday evening as part of his 13-date 50th anniversary tour.
The show opened with a video showing highlights from an illustrious singing career. This set the mood for the audience in a packed Concert Hall who enjoyed an evening of great entertainment and quite a lot of nostalgia.
The star’s appearance on stage was introduced using a clip from the Ed Sullivan show. As the host of that long-running programme first introduced him to the US television audience of the sixties so Jack strolled on stage. His entrance was that of someone joining a group of close friends for a relaxed evening. None of the audience probably attended his debut but one lady, Jane, received a special mention from Jack having first attended one of his concerts 31 years ago.
Jones sang the songs everyone remembered: Wives and Lovers, Lollipops and Roses, If (in the latter case some of the audience even remembered the words of that song better than Jack but he was totally unfazed as he stood in the middle of the audience improvising and charming all before him as he has always done).
His singing and interpretation of songs earned him the regard of the very best such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet with whom he has enjoyed a long friendship. He related anecdotes from his career in a humorous and slightly self-effacing way that fitted well with the mood of the evening.
Also appearing in the concert was the impressive singer-impressionist Bob Anderson who sang duets with Jack in the style of many of the greats all backed by the band that were impressive throughout.
The evening was, however, about Jack and his songs and for many in the audience no doubt the fond memories that go with them.

You have to remember the press reviewers are NOT usually fans of the artist's they are giving their reviews on, so can be more truthful in their reviews. On the other hand, JJ fans will maybe see thing's a little differently (through rose tinted spectacles) come to mind .........................................but I'm not saying that about your reviews Marian, as I know you will have given your honest opinion of the concerts

So glad to read that he's still singing Lollipops and Roses. I love that song and arrangement ... it's so lush. I also love it by Herb Alpert in an entirely different treatment.
Did he sing If You Go Away or Call Me Irresponsible? I remember loving the latter song when I was a young lad.
