DICKIE VALENTINE

Post by karl » Fri Mar 02, 2012 5:00 pm

I agree with John regarding Dickie'sversion of Climb Every Mountain it is very good indeed and it's not often a man performs that song.

I wonder how Dickie's recording career would have gone if he had lived to record in a more modern style, he certainly had the voice and it would have bene good to see him record material similar to Matt or Jack Jones, Vince Hill etc:

I am browsing for other cd's by him, there are quite a few - the 3 cd set looks interesting, do you have all his cd's John?

Looking at the song selection of disc 2 of Pye Anthology which is live in South African in 1962, even for that time his choice of material was quite old, as if he was playing it safe.

I have a few of his cd's Karl. A good one is the "Complete 50's " and I really like this one tilted "Mr Sandman" which features mostly recordings from the sixties and early seventies.

Marian is also a big Dickie Valentine fan. :)

Yes I have my eye on The Complete 50's, the one you mentioned seems to be deleted - maybe it will be re-released someday!

John is right-I love Dickie Valentine---at the time he was actually around singing, I did not appreciate his voice--maybe it was an age thing !! I prefer him singing standard songs, as opposed to the hits that he was well known for--my very favourite "Long before I knew you" also "Time after time" " For all we know" etc etc--why do we not hear those on the radio--I think Dickie Valentine, Vince Hill, and Matt are very similar--really fabulous voices, singing great songs.

I would give a lot to have a dvd of Dickie Valentine, and Vince Hill for that matter--they are just not around-at least I have never seen them,. Maybe they are hidden away, like Matt's were for so many years.

I have a few tv appearanes of VInce Hill which I burned to dvd some years ago, I also sent a copy to VInce who told me he didn't even remember one of the appearances! However I agree with you, it would be great to have an official release, there is one on David Whitfield & Alma Cogan so why not Dickie or VInce?

Yes, it would be nice to have a dvd of both these singers. There are a few clips of Dickie on youtube, not many, and even less of Vince. There must be enough material available to bring out a dvd.

I always think it's sad they wait until an artist has passed away before they do anything.

VInce is still with us thankfully but he has a catalogue of albums never released on cd. If they don't release his cd's they are hardly likely tp release a dvd!

I remember years ago when Dean Martin was still alive, I looked in Tower Records in Boston (USA) and they had two, some years later when he was gone the browser was full of his product.
