A. I love this song Henry. It is HOME. MISS YOU is not the correct answer, but this clue should solve it.
This song is a ladies name, recorded by a famous group and one of Mantovani's most popular. :D

A. "CHARMAINE"

Here is a strange verse for a song that was recorded by many "blues" singers & the verse by Louie Armstrong....

As a tot, when I trotted in little velvet pants,
I was kissed by my sisters, cousins & aunties.
Sad to tell, it was hell, an inferno worse than Dante's.
So My Dear I swore, "Never Never More!"
On my list I insisted that kissing must be crossed out.
Now I find I was blind, & Oh My! How I lost out!...............

How Long Has This Been Going On. Henry. :)
Sarah Vaughan also sang the refrain to this song.

Here's one you will know.

WHILE THE STORM CLOUDS GATHER.
FAR ACROSS THE SEA. LET US SWEAR ALLEGIENCE
TO A LAND THATS FREE.
LET US ALL BE GRATEFUL.
FOR A LAND SO FAIR
AS WE RAISE OUR VOICES.
IN A SOLMN PRAYER.

GOD BLESS AMERICA - Kate Smith

Thanks for that one, L & H

Here's one that Syd Lawrence did "live" when I attended 20 years ago with Sarah Gilbert on the vocal ---

I Got a Big Surprise when I saw you smile.
I never dreamed that it could be,
But now I realize since I saw you smile,
There's only happiness for me, so............

This is the fabulous BYE BYE BLUES Henry.

Here is a well known oldie.

THE OREIOLE WITH JOY WAS SWEETLY SINGING.
THE LITTLE BROOK WAS BURBLING IT'S TUNE.
THE VILLAGE BELLS AT NOON WERE GAILY RINGING.
THE WORLD SEEMED BRIGHTER THAN A HARVEST MOON.
FOR THERE WITHIN MY ARMS I GENTLY PRESSED YOU.
AND BLUSHING RED YOU SLOWLY TURNED AWAY
I CAN'T FORGET THE WAY I ONCE CARESSED YOU.
I ONLY PRAY WE'LL MEET ANOTHER DAY...

Yes, Marian.. This is actually titled " In The Shade Of The Old Apple Tree."
There is another comedy Music Hall song... "I went round to the old Apple Tree " The Apple Tree being a pub. We have a video of music hall singer Lily Morris performing this song and getting drunk, dancing and showing her long calico bloomers. :D :D

Your turn Marian.

Thanks Robert, Lily Morris was one of the greats in those days.
She was more remembered for her song... Don't Have Any More Mrs More
We have a series that was presented by Jimmy Perry for a TV broadcast way back in the SiXties of these old timer Music Hall performers. :)

I found this verse, but it might have been entered before.....

I USED TO THINK I COULD LIVE WITHOUT YOU,
BUT I ADMIT THAT I CHANGED MY MIND.
I GO TO SLEEP AND I DREAM ABOUT YOU,
AND THROUGH THE DAY YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND ME.....

I think this is Bing's "Blue and Broken hearted "Henry.

Here's a well known song.

MY LUCK WILL VARY SURELY, THAT'S PURELY A CURSE.
MY LUCK HAS CHANGED IT'S GOTTEN, FROM ROTTEN TO WORSE.
WHO KNOWS SOMEDAY I WILL WIN TOO, I'LL BEGIN TO REACH MY PRIME.
NOW THAT I SEE WHAT OUR END IS
ALL I CAN SPEND IS, JUST MY TIME....

I CAN'T GIVE YOU ANYTHING BUT LOVE BABY......Thanks for the hint, L & H (not a well known verse)

Here's one I just heard....It might have been entered before....

ONE DAY I'M HAPPY, NEXT DAY I'M BLUE.
ONE DAY YOU LOVE ME, NEXT DAY WE'RE THROUGH.
SOMETIMES I'M LAUGHING, SOMETIMES I SMILE.
THEN IT'S ALL OVER AND IN A LITTLE WHILE.....
