I'm not sure people are playing this game correctly. Aren't we just supposed to be listing songs that we love, irrespective of the band or singer? There's a big difference between a "favourite song" and our favourite recordings.

FOOLED AROUND & FELL IN LOVE - Elvin Bishop

Paul, you are technically correct, but when I think of my favorite songs, I automatically think of my #1 version.

Since I have to be categorical and precise for a living, I'm probably making too much of this distinction. For example, I wouldn't put Fooled Around and Fell In Love here. That would be one of your favorite records. Who else recorded it by Elvin Bishop? Even though I love many of Robbie Williams's, Lisa Stansfield's, and Gabrielle's songs, I wouldn't include them here because they were only performed by those singers, with the exception of Angels, which has become a standard.

Perhaps Marian should have called this My Favourite Standard. That's how I understood it and why she started it with Time After Time. I know she loves the song by Johnny and Matt, just as I love With A Song In My Heart by Jerry, Ella, the Supremes, Mel, etc.

Paul, you are correct, and Marian did specifically state... a favourite song,
irrespective of who sings it, so therefore we have posted incorrectly and with so many named recordings, could make this thread could go on for ever and ever. :) but most of us do associate a favourite song with a certain singer.
Here's a thought, maybe that could be a thread. Name one of your favourite songs and the recording of a singer who ruined it. :D

The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore

(I think it's good to include the singer as not everyone may know it, let's not be TOO picky here after all nobody is going to win a prize, the above song I like by The Walker Brothers but it has also been recorded by Peter Hoffman)

Also a word to Paul, we all had to be precise in our jobs but this is a fun site for music lovers - a place where we can switch off and have some fun. So what if people get things wrong, it's not rocket science. By all means strive for perfection in your own life and career but leave it at the door here, ok? :)

Yes, I did start this thread for your favourite song--irrespective of who sings it, so may be I was not clear enough.

At the same time, as long as everyone is joining in, one way or another that is fine by me---if I give a name, it is usually a more obscure song, so I give the composer.
