THE VOICE UK 2012

Post by mariana44 » Sun Mar 25, 2012 12:33 pm

Did anyone catch this last night--I had been so looking forward to it, but was in fact rather disappointed.

It was strange having no whacky contestants or sarcastic comments afterwards. The judges all seemed too "nice" ! I did not hear a singer that stood out for me.

The most irritating part was when they flashed back to family and friends in the wings, all shouting "push the button, push the button"--i could definately have done without that.

TO be honest, I thought it was slightly boring !

Yes I watched the start but I couldn't get into it, and switched on to ITV. :)

I'm evidently in the minority here, but I enjoyed it. It made a change for the focus to be on the talent of people, no explotation of deluded people who can't really sing but are encouraged to do so by producers - yes, this is what happens on other shows. Several rounds go by before the contestants get to the on screen 'judges' with only the best and the worst sent through to them. By this time the poor deluded people who have not talent actually think they must be good to get through!

The Voice gets rid of this ridiculous stage and concentrates on the voice. Think of some of the greatest singers of all time, incredible voices that today would have been passed over because they didn't look 'perfect'. Ella would probably have been considered fat for
instance, Bing had big ears, maybe even Matt might have been considered too short.

Whilst I too remain to be convinced about the quality of singers put through so far, who knows perhaps this might be the sort of show that finds a superstar or at least someone who will be around for years - How many Z factor or Britain's got very little talent contestants have actually gone on to big things and will still be talked about on forums like this more than 50 years after their first hit? Not many.

Hopefully, your judges in the UK are better than ours here in the US.

I don't think they where "that" big Richard ................hardly noticeable really, and certainly would never have prevented finding success in his musical career

Just an example off the top of my head - the point I was making is that too much importance is given to the image of a singer these days when really it's the voice that really matters.

I agree with Richard. When I first started to buy records we had no idea what the singer looked like as hardly anyone had a tv, the first time I heard Sandie Shaw sing Always Something There To Remind Me I thought she was black.

However I doubt Matt being short mattered as lots of singers are short but I appreciate the point you made Richard.

Although I didn't watch the entire show, just heard it from the PC, I could hear the screaming going on and looked in to see the dopey relatives backstage some of them looking almost as if they could easily break a blood vessel.
Ugh !!! let me know on this forum if anyone detects a singer on THE VOICE who they think may have a chance, because if this is going to be anything like the reality contests that i've occasionally struggled to watch, it's no good looking or listening for voices like Matt's, Franks, Perry's or Vics, voices like theirs have been considered by the gormless panel to be cheesy, or Cruise ship. :x

Lena & Harry I turned on when the show had started and I stuck it for about 30 seconds, as you say the screaming is a bit much, and as for the singers you mentioned well if they are cheesy so what - we like them and I saw Vic Damone in person with Lena Horne near Boston years ago and met Vic afterwards, the show was great and he was friendly.

UGH! Gotta agree with you all. I watch the US version and only like a few people and the judges I dispise especially Christina Aguillera. I like singers like Matt, Frank, etc as my Dad says these are guys that can sing and are representative of what a singers should sound and look like. He always kids me that the majority of my "music" (and he uses the term loosely) are just people who look weird, jump up and down with guitars , bangs on drums and screams and shouts!!

What I object to is the amount of money spent on these shows, they always say they can't afford to put on shows the way they did before - why?

When was the last time we saw the artists we really want to see on tv? People Like Jack Jones, Johnny Mathis, Jackie Trent etc to name just a few, just because they are older does not mean they can't do it as many of them are still touring like Buddy Greco and Petula Clark in their 80's. I saw Petula just as she was reaching 70 and she did the whole show with her orchestra and she was fantastic!

Why do they have so many shows looking for new singers, I'm sure we don't need them. Surely if they have real talent they will be discovered. What happened with working your way up, the way real singers did in the past.

Marian, agreed!! Some of these folks deserve a shot, but this reality business has to go.
