Hi Lena, Harry and Everyone,

Last night we all sat down and watched "Satans Harvest" on DVD.
We really enjoyed the film very much.
Also the extra footage of Matt singing a few of his songs, was an added bonus. :D

Hi Hilary, Although we didn't rate the movie Satan's Harvest as being one of the best that we've ever seen, and some of the acting wasn't really Oscar worthy, at least Matt just appeared to be himself with the touch of humour, and he enjoyed doing the film.
Go Go Monro was a great added bonus, some of Matt's best songs included here with "Bill Bailey" and that incredible final note. :)

"Matt at the Movies"- DVD compatable with US Playe

Post by hpooch » Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:03 pm

Attention to all Matt Monro Fans in the USA -- The new DVD "Matt at the Movies" is playable on certain DVD Players for sale in the States even though it is on the PAL Format. I have a Zenith Slim-Line DVD/CD Player that I purchased at Circuit City on sale for $59.00 last May of 2005 and it plays all the DVDs I have purchased from UK Internet shops. So fellow Non-European fans...Take heart and Check it out!! The songs on the DVD are clear in Picture and sound, and especially "Three Coins in the Fountain" and "Walk Away" with Rome in the background. My congrats to Michele for making the Movie and Video available at long last!!

I watched the DVD Matt at the Movies for the first time tonight. I must say that the main film S. H. is quite outdated and actually quite terrible, and it doesn't seem to have been re-mastered  the best thing in the film is Matt :D I didn't actually know that Britains 60's character actor Davy Kaye was in the film.

The best thing about Matt at the Movies is Go Go With Matt Monro :D :D truly amazing, and proves absolutely no doubt that our Matt is the greatest singer in the world 8) 8) 8) 8) as L&H have mentioned the final note on Bill Bailey is awesome.....................even Roy Castle passed comment on the long final note :) Matts rendition of Three Coins in a Fountain is memorable, outstanding, awe inspiring.........................truly musical perfection 8) 8) 8) 8) Frank Sinatras version is great, but Matt just sings Frank out of the water 8) 8) ..........................I did think though, that Matts jacket was a bit too short for him

Does anyone else think Matts version of -Three Coins in a Fountain- from the DVD Matt at the Movies is......................truly awesome :?: I cannot see very much discussion on these pages regarding Matts truly amazing vocals on the song......................the "Nelson Riddle" style arrangement also adds to the song. In my opinion -Three Coins in a Fountain- is one of Matts best ever recordings......................just a pity the song was not recorded for a CD.....................but hey, I just keep the DVD on "auto pilot" so the song just keeps on repeating   8) 8)

Hi Robert
Matt's version of any song is always the best,
because he was the best. That's why we love him.

I listened to 'Who Can I Turn To' yesterday on repeat play, I think Matt's version of this song is majestic.

I almost agree with you Keith, but I remember saying in the past on this website that the original version of My Way (Frank) and Stardust (Nat) were just unbeatable  but they are the ONLY two songs

Yes Gray, Matt makes Who Can I Turn To his very own song, doesn't he? just awesome...............as Matt alway's is when singing those searing ballads 8) 8)

Hi again, Robert
I guess I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Monro maniac
(thanks for the phrase) because I prefer Matt's
versions of My Way and Stardust. I think Frank gained
from his original association with My Way; however,
I agree Nat's mellow rendition (like Matt's) of Stardust
is memorable.
Whoever thought that Matt would outshine Frank's
Three Coins in the Fountain? Or Tony Bennett's I Left
My Heart in San Francisco for that matter?
Keith

Actually, Robert, I prefer Matt Monro's version of My Way over Frank Sinatra's. I agree about Stardust. Here are a few more where I prefer another artist's version:

Bridge Over Troubled Water -- prefer Simon & Garfunkel
You Don't Have To Say You Love -- prefer Dusty Springfield
Strangers In The Night -- prefer Burt Kaempfert's version 8)
The Happening -- prefer Diana Ross and the Supremes even though I love Matt's version :D

But for everything else, he sings the very best version. Take, for example, Yesterday, a song I never liked. But I like the song when it's sung by Matt Monro. :)

I was reading just the other day how 'Yesterday' nearly got released as a solo single by Paul McCartney, as no other Beatle appears on their recording plus it was a McCartney composition.
