Listening to the programme at the moment on the listen again feature
we have had Marti Webb on the show singing
now Joe Longthorne is singing - If I Never Sing Another Song
.......................two great star guests...................we also had Peter Grant singing Walk Away and On Days Like These....................................but NO ONE can put these songs over like Matt could. I am just wondering who is going to sing Born Free
I wish it could have been Matt standing there singing on stage, now that would have been COOL

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

It was Gary Barlow from Take That (
) who sang Born Free. He didn't do too badly though. Don thanked John Barry at the end of the programme, saying he couldn't have made it without John Barry, but he had no thanks whatsoever for Matt
(I do feel MAD about that, as I'm sure it was Matt who put Don Black on the map).

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Did anyone else listen to the programme
I enjoyed listening to the show, it had plenty of star guests singing Don Black songs. But, I think Don could have just given Matt a mention, having been associated with him for all those years. After all, Matt has gone..............but he is NOT forgotten...............

Yes L&H, I thought it was too close to the knuckle also
...............While listening to him speak at the end, I thought to myself he sounds as though he had maybe had one tipple too many.............he then came out with the above joke
another reason to go down a peg or two in my estimation.

I just finished listening to this programme. Some of it was quite painful. Sam is one of my top 2 Olivia Newton-John songs and Elke Brooks (who is one of Don Black's favourite singers) absolutely ruined it.
I know that If I Never Sing Another Song is also a signature song by Joe Longthorne, but I could barely listen.
Peter Grant did a passable cover of Walk Away on his debut album, but there was no magic in this show.
Gary Barlow should stick to Rule The World. I agree Michael, you just hear Matt Monro on every note of Born Free and it doesn't work for anyone else to sing it.
The only highlights were Lulu on To Sir With Love (although a bit overdone at the end) and Craig David on Ben. Marti Webb was okay with whatever she sang.
I agree that there was no need for that silly comment from Don Black at the end. I expect more from British humour, but then he never made it as a comedian.
Yes, he should have thanked Matt Monro. Don Black would be nothing if it wasn't for Matt Monro who discovered the beautiful melody of Warum Nur Warum and suggested Don Black write a lyric. There are many undiscovered songwriters in the world and Matt Monro was singularly responsible for Don Black's career and success.
