A. DOOKIE was given to Princess Elizabeth in 1933 when she was about 8 years old.

Q. What was the name of the horse that came 2nd in the Derby yesterday?

Just chipping in, as this is another one of my questions for the WI quiz this week, and I have a different answer.

Plus I note 2 different ages---my answer is Susan, which I did check out---Harry & Lena--which is correct ?

I saw this on an Telegraph article Marian, but as it is in a newspaper it might not be right!

"Dookie and Jane, the first of the famous royal corgis, were bought for Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret in 1933 after they had fallen in love with the corgis owned by the children of the Marquess of Bath.
Dookie was christened when he was born as he was always intended to go to the home of the Duke of York the father of Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. The name stuck when the dog was delivered to the royal household."

Thanks Marian---I had always thought it was Susan, and have never heard of "Dookie".

Hi to both of you, But "Susan" was the name of the Corgi puppy, the first puppy of the 18 year old Queen.....not when she was a princess.

She wasn't Queen until she was 25 Henry.

Harry, Lena--please help-what did you haave as the answer to the Queen's first Corgi---I do not want to llok an idiot at me WI quiz, by having the wrong answer.

Robert, David Jacobs has been around as long as I can remember, so I am going to guees that he is 85 years old.

She was definitely given Susan when she was 18 years old, and she was her favourite corgi, and all the future Royal dogs were descended from her. I have photos of her with corgis when she was much younger though, but they might have been owned by the rest of the family.
I should think you would be safe with Susan, Marian.
