I'm a bit late with this, but The Times are giving away dvd copies of ear;y Hitchcock movies this week.
You only have to buy the paper at WHSmiths to get your hands on the movies.

Jon - like you all I always watch an old British comedy if its on. Bob Monkhouse was in some good films, as was Stanley Baxter and of course James Robertson Justice.

Your mention of James Robertson Justice jogged my memory of the old "Doctor" series of movies which I used to love.

I like all those actors you mentioned, Mike. Stanley Baxter and James Robertson Justice were in in a great film together, I think it was called "And Father Came Too".

It has had a digital transfer (re-master) for its release onto DVD. It is a 2 disc special, with an extra special features disc 8) 8) the colour if fantabulous  :D

Funny how everyone remembers James Robertson Justice for that phrase--sounding so innocent these days !!!

Your mention of an early Robin Hood film Robert made me remember a version, probably from the fifties, starring John Derek and Diana Lynn.
I did a competition to win Diana Lynn's headscarf from the film, but I didn't win it!

We are going to watch another L & H (Laurel and Hardy, not Lena and Harry  ) later on, "Air Raid Wardens". This was one of their later films, but another good one! 8)

Yes she did, some funny stories, some not so funny, and when duty called in the dark evenings, she was out there with little fear, equipped with a tin hat and a torch for unexpected emergencies, unlike when she reached her later years she wouldn't dream of being out after dark. Times have changed. :(

They certainly have Lena. Imagine feeling safer out in the dark with a war on than being out after dark these days. :? :o :? :o
