Special days in June

Seeing that we are such a close knit family, I thought it would be nice if you let us know the dates in the year that are special to you.

Listening to Barbara Windsor today (sitting in for Elaine Paige) for Father's Day she played a record I haven't played in years - "Dear Father" by Neil Diamond followed by Eddie Fisher singing "Oh Mein Papa" by this time I had tears in my eyes as Eddie had such a beautiful rich voice.

I also thought of John, my own dad passed away in 1987 and yet hearing those songs can still get the emotions running high. Do we get more sentimental the older we get? I know a sad film used to have my dad drying his eyes, he never admitted it he always had something in his eye!!!

Thanks everyone for my birthday wishes-I am having a quiet day today---and dog-sitting for my neighbour, as she and the family are out all day celebrating Fathers day.

Yesterday we went to an afternoon tea, run by the Lionesses in a back garden in the village--it was really nice--but oh that wind--I thought we were going to lose our tea, table and everything !!

I am having lunch out tomorrow with my WI friends, and on Tuesday, we are going to Hastings for lunch, with the Hobbies group-so really hoping for good weather on that day.

Karl-these days are always sad--I think of my dad--because Father's day is always near my birthday, and I think of George, too. It gets tough at times.

Mariana, I can't say I can relate to what you are feeling, but I believe your Dad and George are with you every step of the way. A song that really pulls on my heart strings is called "My Dad" by Paul Peterson. It's from the old Donna Reed tv show from the 60's. It's a corny little tune, but gosh it sure says everything I want to say about my Dad.

Thanks Eman & Robert-I will check that link out as soon as I get the time. It is over 50 years since I lost my dad, but the memories never fade.

I have never heard that song before--it is really lovely.

It reminds me of some songs Neli Sedaka wrote [in reverse], for his daughter--"Let Daddy Know" and for his son "My son and i "--rarely heard , but lovely songs. He also wrote songs for his wife, and more recently on a Christmas album, for his twin granddaughters.I am a big fan of Neil, and his music.

Mariana, when I first heard it watching the show on reruns, I loved it. It took me years to find the record. I always kinda tear up when I listen to it because for me it says everything I want to say about my Dad.
