Well, I went to see Al Martino last night and it was great. The Opera House in Buxton is a great venue, well worth a vist if you are in the area, even if you aren't seeing a show there. It is as you would imagine a theatre to look like when they were new at the turn of the century. The show was in two halves with the first half being a comedian called Martin Gold(very cabaret!)and wasin fitting with his name. He was of the old school, in that his act was clean and funny, if some of his jokes were a bit, well, old. The second half was Al Martino. Even though he is eighty one he has still it!(as one lady out of the audience pointed out to him!) His voice was,as you would imagine, a little tired, but he more than made up for it with his warmth and profesionalism. His choice of songs was really good, and I have a feeling if you went to see him the next night you would get a different choice of songs, as he and his M.D. were discussing which song to do next, and turning a few over. For me, one of the biggest thing of the night was the band. What a band! What arrangements! For this reason alone, if you like our kind of music, you should enjoy this show. All in all, well worth seeing if he is appearing in your neck of the woods.
Americans are very good at this kind of thing, but as in most things...........British is Best!
I thought Al was singing as good as ever last night, the applause from the audience told us that. A few different songs this time, like I say, I am not giving anything away there, but I know anyone who goes to see him are definitely in for a real treat. Yes, he is nearly 81, but he sang like a dream. Here's to London!

Thank to John and John for your reports on Al's concerts, and glad you enjoyed the evening. What a trooper. !!
He is pretty amazing, and all we can say is that at every concert we've been to he has given his all.
Many of todays overrated so-called performers could learn a lot from him and those of that special era, Matt, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Jack Jones, Sinatra, Dean Martin Sammy Davies Jnr.
We'll be hitting the road to Northampton tomorrow to the Royal Derngate Theatre, and are looking forward to seeing Al again, can't wait

It was useful and the Three deliveries a day were too.
Anyway, just as we expected, we had a wonderful evening at the Royal & Derngate Theatre.
Al was in great form and sang superbly. He sang his standard songs plus some surprise numbers along with some jokes and humour and the audience were loving every minute.
We'll omit the songs for those who haven't yet seen the concert although as john said they could change from night to night.
He showed his fitness when he jumped on to the piano
and we both almost had our hearts in our mouths.
How he does it night after night with all the travelling in between the concerts we don't know, it's tiring even for younger artists.
Martin Gold is his warm up artist and very funny he is too, but clean humour.
We're looking forward to the next one at Basingstoke but mainly the one at the Shaw Theatre with you guys here on the forum

Really pleased to hear you had such a great evening Lena and Harry. Roll on a week tomorrow and our little get-together in London.
John sent a photo of him standing outside the theatre in Buxton, and I've been straining my eyes trying to read the song list on the poster behind him!
Not much luck though, so they'll all still come as a wonderful surprise on the night.
