Elbow

Post by paul jh » Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:29 pm

:!: :) I would like to congratulate Elbow on winning the 2008 Nationwide Mercury Prize for their album The Seldom Seen Kid.

They have been in the business for 18 years and were genuinely happy to win this award as they put so much heart and soul in this album project.

I've been wanting to write about Elbow for several months and now is the perfect time. This is a superb album and I think all forum members would enjoy it. Top tracks are: One Day Like This, The Fix, Grounds For Divorce, The Bones of You, and Mirrorball. The Fix features Richard Hawley (from Sheffield) who released the stunning album last year, Lady's Bridge, another must for all forum members. Elbow is from Bury, which I believe is somewhere in the north, but I'm not sure where.

Well done, Elbow! 8)

Can't say I'd heard of them before either, though I did watch the awards ceremony on TV. Paul's recommendation may be just about enough to make me want to explore their music.

I'm happy you all had fun with 'Elbow'.

But they are a great group and I am sure that you will enjoy their music, Jon and Robert.

Marian from Kent: I am certain you have heard their song One Day Like This. It was played often on Radio 2 a couple months ago.

Marian from Reading: I am certain you have heard their song One Day Like This. It was played on the Big Brother finale.

Lena and Harry: I am certain you have heard their song One Day Like This. It has been played at the finales of recent sporting events.

Paul, I have just seen Elbow singing "One Day Like This " on Youtube but can't say I recognise the song, but they are certainly a better group than others that we could name.

Saw Elbow on the Andrew Marr Show this morning Paul. They were described as "heroic drinkers"!
I must admit their sound was quite good. They showed a film of "Grounds for Divorce".
