Eman-San Diego looks great-I was really sorry that I did not get chance to go there, any time I was in US.

A little breakthrough in the weather today-a little warmer---but still a mix of sun and showers--many areas have been flooded over the last week.

Watched the wonderful Rogers and Hemmerstein musical Carousel on DVD tonight :) ...............I had a few   in my eyes during some of the sad scenes.................I have mentioned on here before, but Barbara Ruick never made another film after Carousel for over twenty years (unbelievable) :( .............she passed away suddenly aged 43 :(

Did she make any films previous to "Carousel"-I do not remember seeing her anywhere else.

I must check to see if I have Carousel, haven't seen it for years but I remember seeing it as a child and it was moving.

Barbara made a few films in the early 50's then starred in a few TV series, then out of the blue a call came for her to appear in Carousel :) .............after Carousel she went back to doing TV series :( ............what a waste of a lovely talent :( .........here is Barbaras' IMdB page...........

I liked Carousel a lot but prefered the Music Man better. Currently watching the old 80's tv show called "Rags to Riches" on dvd.

Thanks for that info Robert. Did you know that on the studio recording of Carousel, the part of Carrie was played by Sarah Brightman, and the part of Julie, by Barbara Cook---and if i remember rightly, this was the only recording where they played "The Carousel Waltz" with lyrics.

I just watched the dvd and agree there are certainly some teary moments, what a load of great songs for one film though.

Barbara Ruick, was she the daughter? I've never heard of her but she wasn't 43 when she died she was 41 as I just checked the link Robert gave.

I also checked out Gordon Macrae. he passed away from cancer of the mouth and jaw - how sad for such a wonderful singer. I also checked out some of his records and saw on one cd with Jo Stafford they sing Star Of Hope which was the b side to The Springfields single Bambino.

Barbara played Carrie Pipperidge, and married Mr Snow--and of course sang "When I marry Mr Snow"--i love that song. So sad to hear of her early passing--plus Gordon Macrae. What a loss to the musical world.
