Hi Jon
I'm flattered by your the close attention you give
to my meaningless meanderings; one doesn't see
one's own mistakes, does one? :)

Marian, your thread is keeping us on our toes;
however, as for my dozen desert island discs, here goes:

Four by Matt:

AS LONG AS I'M SINGIN'
I GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU VERY WELL
SPRING IS HERE
SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU

Three by Edward Elgar:

The larghetto of Serenade for Strings
The andante of the Violin Concerto
Introduction for Allegro and Strings

Variation 18 of Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
by Rachmaninoff

Danny Boy, by Finbar Wright
Whatever You Believe, by Finbar Wright
You're The One, by the Carpenters
Yesterday When I Was Young, by Jack Jones.

I would also plump for Robert's surround sound
player, but where would I plug it in? :?

Keith

Gosh you are quick, Mariana.
I gave my 'one and only' earlier:
I GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU VERY WELL,
whose ironic overtones would be particularly apt.

Thanks for this, Keith. Can't say "I Get Along Without You Very well" is much of a favourite of mine, but then I don't like the song whether it is sung by Matt or anyone else.

By the way---a long long time ago, I was a big fan of Anthony Newley--and he did a great version of that song-"I get along without you very well" -very melancholy---especially when you have just split up with a long-time boyfriend--which I had at that time.

A very nice selection Keith.
I'm sure there's a plug socket somewhere in that plush hotel on the island Keith! It's a desert island, not a deserted island

Hi Gray
It's good to see Leeds United sailing away from
the Division One doldrums; they'll soon be back
where they belong, on the high seas of English football.

Hi Keith

Thanks for your post - I now have another excuse to talk about Leeds Utd! :)
Yes, i am really pleased the way Leeds are performing at the moment as well as picking up points.
I really hope we go up automatically, please not another Play-Off campaign :(

Who is your team, Keith?

Gray, I hope you are not going to say, that you had Paul up in Yorkshire, but could not persuade him to go to a Leeds match ???

Thanks for the list Robert, nice to see 'The Rare Monro' included.
I must try to get my act together on this, I am finding it so very difficult as songs speak differently to me day to day.

Hi Marian - Paul chose to visit York Minster rather than see the Leeds game, but I did show him the stadium whilst we were in Leeds on Monday :)
I couldn't visit Leeds without going to Mecca :)
