Yeah, I used to belong to that Yahoo group. I also used to belong to the Al Bowlly Circle. I used to get the little Memory Lane magazine that was produced. I still have a lot of them and I really should subscribe again! (My kids are older now, so it's time for me to indulge in my hobbies again.)
Those little books are chock full of interesting stuff about the dance band days. I went to a couple of the Memory Lane parties in the 1980's held at the Bonnington Hotel in London. I managed to meet quite a few of the band members who were by then elderly gents. Sadly, most of them are now playing it sometimes sweet and sometimes hot in the great dance hall in the sky.

The best event was held at the South African Embassy in April 1991, to commemorate 50 years since Al was killed in an air raid.
(Apologies, if I'm repeating stuff you already have discussed here)
It was at that event I met Alan Dell who used to do the Radio 2 Dance Band days. He and his wife were very nice and we had a lovely chat. Shame he is no longer with us too.
I have very happy memories of those events and still have the photos somewhere!
