I really like Justin Hayward Lindy, he made a few solo albums, this one I think is his best. :)

Hi Mariana,
Thumbs up on Mandy....loved his singing/performance so much in Evita ("High Flying Adored", wow!) and in Sunday in the Park with George. Such a beautiful voice and great acting talent. Thanks for this title, another for me to investigate. :)

It must be, John. I just checked both Amazons, and it's only available for 173 pounds or 148 bucks, used! Well, maybe some day it'll get remastered/ released.

Yes John, he is an enchanting singer/phraser/emoter, for sure!

Finian's Rainbow movie soundtrack, Petula, Fred, and Tommy, et al,

I remember my mother had an older Broadway cast recording of it that was good too.
Wondering if anyone prefers that one.

I think Petula's recording of "Look to the Rainbow" and Pet's and Fred's "How are things in Glocca Mora?" are the best on record, but don't be shy if you've heard better.

Wouldn't Matt have done each of them The BEST?

Hi Lindy--I have both those cds of Mandy Patinkin--Sunday in the Park with George, plus the American recording of "Evita"--I was shortly going to list this as one of my favourites! I love the music from Evita, and have at least 6 different versions-including a Spanish version, and a Japanese version. "High Flying Adored" is one of my favourite songs from it, although not heard as many of the others. there is a new US version , with Ricky Martin as Che, but the thing that puts me off is Elena Roger as Evita-I just do not like her voice.

As for Finians Rainbow---I love "Look to the rainbow" from Astrud Gilberto, and also Barry Manilow with Barbara Cook. "How are things in Glocca Morra" is on the Mandy Patinkin "Experiment" cd--and it is one of the very rare cds where I love every track on it.

Great Stuff, last two posts from John and Mariana.

Mariana, I'll look up that Astrud Gilberto recording of "Look to the Rainbow". Thanks.
And we are soon to hear OUR MATT singing "Old Devil Moon" from Finians! Oh Boy!
For some reason, and I don't think it was Don Franck's fault at all, ODM was the least of the performances in the movie (Pet seemed to struggle with this one, dramatically):

I think I heard ODM performed much better in that Finian's Broadway recording I heard before the movie came out. That's why it's always stayed in my head and I yearn to hear Matt sing it.

I can't imagine Ricky Martin as Che. Wouldn't he insist on wearing his expensive tight leather pants, his shirt open to reveal his gold chains, and wouldn't he completely forget that he was supposed to be portraying one of the most courageous, selfless economic freedom and public health fighters in the history of the planet, who gave his life for the poor? Just can't imagine Rickly getting that. Or portraying it.

Evita with Patti Lupone and Mandy Pantinkin: Two virtually impossible acts to follow, musically and dramatically. :)

Hi Mariana, and Everyone,
I found a recording of the original (1947) Broadway cast of Finian's Rainbow. Here Donald Richards (WHO?) and Ella Logan sing Old Devil Moon. I think it was Donald's recording that stuck in my head. btw, I heard Sinatra's recording of it tonight, too. Nope, Donald's is much better. This singer/actor, Donald Richards, does a GREAT job on "If this isn't love", too (second link)

Give these a listen:

This album got a lot of play in my house growing up. I think it's probably better than the movie soundtrack, now that I'm listening to it again.
