NEIL ARMSTRONG.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Sat Aug 25, 2012 11:04 pm

We have just heard on the news that Neil Armstrong...the first man to walk on the moon has passed away at the age of 82..... a small step for man, a giant leap for mankind.
Apparently a very modest man who was already a great hero flying Navy fighters in the Korean war.
R.I.P. Neil Armstrong.

We watched every moment of the moon landing on tv, along with our baby daughter. It might have been very difficult to see clearly, but it was a momentous time for us all.

Neil Armstrong will certainly go down as one of Americas greatest.
We were privileged to see all Three of these astronaughts when they attended a reception held in their honour at NO 10 Downing Street after this historic moon landing. So many stars and celebrities attending.
Because of high achievements at Harry's Boys club at that time, one boy from the club was invited to be a guest for this evening, and we delivered the chosen boy and met him after this reception. A great memory. !!! :) :)

Neil Armstrong's family released a lovely statement, which ended with this beautifully apt but poignant request:

"For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request.

Honour his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you

walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil

Armstrong and give him a wink."

I shed a tear on hearing that on BBC morning news this Sunday...

RIP Neil Armstrong.
