YOUR FAVORITE CD RECORDING (Not Including Matt's)
Re: YOUR FAVORITE CD RECORDING (Not Including Matt's)
Hi Mariana, Bobby Sherman was an actor/singer. He was a bit player in the mid 60's on some tv shows. However he sky-rocketed into teen stardom when he was on a tv show called "Here Come The Brides" along with David (Hutch) Soul. He then ventured out into recording albums and had hit records such as "Little Woman", "Easy Come, Easy Go", and "Julie Do Ya Love Me" which I believe White Plains had a hit with in the UK. His popularity was from 1969-1972 and he soon faded out once it was discovered he was secretly married (just like Davy Jones) and certain individual named David Cassidy became the flavour of the month and the face of the 70's. Hope that helps!! Bobby Sherman is just an average singer but it's just the memory of him and his songs for me that conjure up my childhood.

For some reason, as far as I know, he never made an impact over here--although David Cassidy did--another big favourite of my sister Jill.

Thanks Eman. You make me have an idea. I should buy that Bobby Sherman CD or at least some of the songs off of it from Itunes, and put it on a surprise CD for my sister. But then, she will say, "I never liked him, you did!" And I confess, I did. But what a fleeting "like"! It was the media blitz that did it to all of us American teenagers. I only wish they'd done it with Matt! They never did it regarding GREAT talent. The American media (which I now call the Greedia) still doesn''t promote GREAT talent. Why the heck IS that?
Mariana, Bobby Sherman singing "Julie, Julie, Julie...." is at one end of the singing talent spectrum........
Matt singing "Maria" is at the other end.
Mariana! My copy of Mackintosh's London Cast "Carousel" arrived! I don't think I'm going to be able to save it till Christmas!

HELEN REDDY---LOVE SONGS
Lindy--that arrived really quickly---Christmas is almost 4 months away-I could not wait that long--I really hope you enjoy it.
I quite liked the recording with Barbara Cook as Julie and Sarah Brightman as Carrie, but I was not happy with the singer who played Billy--his name was Samuel Ramey, and his voice just did not seem right for that part.
Did you catch the post, where I mentioned Michael Hayden, who played Billy at the National Theatre, also played Billy in the Broadway production with Sally Murphy.--that was a good one too.
And I guess I can survive without hearing Bobby Sherman sing !!

I posted a reply to you, and it never showed up. I don't want you to miss Bobby. Here he is singing what I think was his best, but Eman might disagree. Geez, he was darn cute, and THAT's what sold a lot of stuff!

And in that video, notice that they've got him wearing "love beads" with a tie!
Wow! The marketeers were really covering all their potential customer bases with those accoutrements.
Eman, thanks for taking me back. Geez, he was cute!
Okay, ahem! Remembering what this topic is: here's another CD favorite, Henry.
Cosmic Thing -- B52s -- Reprise -- 1989

Lindy and Mariana, This is my fave Bobby song! Lindy remember cereal box records? I ate boxes of awful Honey Combs and Raisin Bran just to get the Bobby records on back,, lol and yeah I sent in my dollar to Tiger Beat Magazine to get my Bobby Luv Beads and Choker! Lol
Re: YOUR FAVORITE CD RECORDING (Not Including Matt's)
You are the cutest, Eman!
That is wonderful. I never even knew about those cereal records! Do you still have any of them?
Oh, wait, now I think I remember. Weren't they really thin, and you had to put them on top of a real record to play them?
I wonder where ALL the BobbyShermanabilia is now?! Someone's gotta be hoarding it. That was A LOT OF stuff!
Hey Little Woman, that was his best then, we agree.
Eman, I think that the equivalent of this type of teen-idol-mania in the U.K. was Adam Faith.
This is THE funniest videos I have ever seen. Makes Bobby look like a serious ARTISTE, don't you think?

Lindy, someone somewhere has the memorabilia..ha ha!! I still wish I had all mine, but you know fickle kids. I have some Roller stuff somewhere.
My Uncle who's English, I use to make him eat some horrid jelly or something to get a Roller poster or something, you couldn't get it in the States.
Plus on the Dinah Shore show they were the guests and made something called a "Chip Buttie" (a french fry sandwich) and drank Strawberry Shakes so no Roller fan worth his or her salt didn't eat that after that day..
Yep the cereal box records were cardboard with plastic coating of the grooves on them. The sounded horrid but to a kid, well. They also had the Monkees, Archies, Jackson 5 and of all people The Sugar Bears who were really Mike Settle of the First Edition and Kim Carnes!!
Back to the music. I love Adam Faith,.. have a 3 cd set of his singles collection
Billy J. Kramer - Listen - Parlaphone 1963 (He's got teen idol written all over him)

Re: YOUR FAVORITE CD RECORDING (Not Including Matt's)
Thanks Lindy--I will check that link out later---and I actually went to Amazon, and heard a bit of "Julie, Julie do you love me"--and found myself singing along as I recognised the song.
Eman--"chip butties" are still very popular hear--just chips [as we call them ], in between 2 slices of bread--ugh--I could not eat one----the "buttie" part comes from up north, as that is what they call a sandwich. Very fulling I guess--but not very nourishing.

Hi Mariana
I see you've mentioned a singer called Samuel Ramey. If he's the one I'm thinking of, Samuel Ramey is in fact an opera singer (baritone or bass-baritone) and I've heard him in recordings of things like "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Don Giovanni" in the lead role but have never been particularly keen on him (he often sounds quite stilted in his delivery). Perhaps he wasn't suited to the lighter stuff you might have heard him in.

Yes, Jon, I knew he was an opera singer--but definately not right for that part in Carousel--I guess some singers can "crossover" but not him.

Re: YOUR FAVORITE CD RECORDING (Not Including Matt's)
Lindy--an interesting fact about Adam Faith that you may not know, which I have mentioned on her previously.
He was born in Acton, which is just a few miles from where I was born and lived for many years in East Acton-[London]--many years later, he moved to Tudeley in Kent, a very small village, it's only claim to fame being a church with Marc Chagall windows-and Adam Faith actuallk died there--and co-incidentally Tudeley is just a few miles down the road from where I live, and I actually go through it once a week when I get my shopping.
Incidentally, he was a very popular siinger here, in his day--he certainly had a unique style.

Adam Faith was also a very good actor, remember the series with Zoe Wanamaker Love Hurts?
I also saw in in A Chorus Line some years ago. He took the Michael Douglas part.
