You know it's so weird. There is always a spate of celebrity deaths. Since August 6th we've had Marvin Hamlisch, Scott McKenzie, Phyllis Diller, Neil Armstrong, Max Bygraves and now Hal David.

Anyway rest in peace Hal - you wrote some fantastic songs.

Thanks, Don.
Mr. David certainly blessed us with marvelous lyrics.
Some that I love are:

Alfie (My favorite Alfie is Matt's! And I wish I'd had it all my life, instead of only in recent years.)

Do You Know the Way to San Jose ? (Dionne)

I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself (Dionne and Dusty both did a beautiful job of it. Of Dusty's recordings, this is my favorite. The White Stripes have done a truly gruesome job of it. I hope Mr. David didn't hear it.)

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head (B.J. Thomas owns it.)

One Less Bell to Answer (Marilyn McCoo's is sooooo beautiful.)

Promises, Promises
Walk On By
Windows of the World (As far as I know, Dionne recorded the best of these three.)

I'm glad Mr. David lived a long life and that he lived his life doing work that he loved and that the world loves.

Whoops. Forgot one in that list....
Mr. David also penned another of my favorite timeless lyrics, "What the World Needs Now is Love".

Jackie Deshannon sang it so beautifully. Have put that on more than one of my favorite compilation CDs.

Oh yes and "A House Is Not A Home" by both Dionne and Luther Vandross!! I love the medley Barbara did of it with "One Less Bell To Answer".
Hey I liked the White Stripes version.

Sad to lose such a great talent--but he has left so many great songs behind as his legacy--a few as mentioned above--but there were so , so many. I have several Bacharach & David cds--and sometimes I listen and think--I did not know they wrote that song too. Both such prolific musicians--I love it all--apart from maybe 2 or 3.

I think Bacharach & David wrote some of the best modern music.

Remember he wrote the last recording by Louis Armstrong " We Have All The Time in The World" from the James Bond movie OHMSS. Also a little known single by Mama Cass called: " The Good Times Are Coming" from a Lee Marvin western 'Monte Walsh' was also written by him. RIP Hal David.

That's a good song Rob, I like Michael Ball's version too.

Hope you had a good holiday?
