Lindy,
Start off with "Book Early", that's their most commercial lp. However any City Boy album is good in my book. I'm biased when it comes to my faves, though if something of theirs is not up to par I'd say so. Kinda like the BCR's "Strangers In The Wind" lp, not inspired and dripping with mundane MOR songs.

Mariana, you'll love it. I have the vinyl verison. He does a really cool cover of Reason to Believe and two Mamas and Papas songs "Twelve Thirty" and "Rooms". "Like An Old Time Movie" is a good one also. Looking forward to hearing what you liked and didn't like about it.

I heard "Like an old time Movie" from a Youtube clip posted on here---was it you Eman, or Lindy ? Whoever, I so Liked that song and Scott's voice, it influenced me to buy the cd--Amazon said it would not arrive until the 11th, so I am pleased to get it today--not sure when I will hear it as I am out tonight, but maybe later.

Robert posted the clip Mariana. Oh I'm excited for you to hear the cd. Scott's album was one of my favourites growing up. I'm just glad my Dad had recorded it on a reel-to-reel tape and put the lp away for safe keeping which is a practice he did with all records after he got that recorder. That's one of the things he taught me that lives on, record the lp onto a tape, put the lp away and just play the tape. Now you can't do that, it's burn it onto a cd, or download from your itunes onto a cd. Times have changed indeed.

Cd's are so much more practical and versatile than a tape--you do not have to turn it over, you can skip a track, and play in in randomorder, which is what I often do-I cannot remember the last time i listed to a tape--but I guees at the time, that is all there was.

The songs mentioned earlier on Scott's cd are what prompted me to order it, it's on the way and I thought it would have arrived today - but no.

But my dear Eman....I usually "sceeve" what is most commercial. Tell me the one you really think is BEST, I'd prefer to start there. Well, I'll go tear around and see what I can find from both Book Early and Heads Will Roll, and I will report back to you.

YAHOO Mariana!!! I'm happy for you. You have fast delivery in the U.K. I don't have mine yet. In fact, I think mine is coming from Germany??

Very much looking forward to it. Scott McKenzie certainly sang beautifully.

Lindy, it's really hard to pick because each album is different. That's probably why they didn't catch on in the US because they couldn't be pigeon holed. I like Book Early, The Day The Earth Caught Fire (which I think is an awesome concept album), Heads Will Roll, and the hard to find It's Personal. Though you have 2 good ones to start with. :D

Hi Eman,
So I found this 5000 Years/ Don't Know Can't Tell from their debut "City Boy" release.
And I like it.! They are not for the feeble minded, they challenge the listener.

I think they may have influenced others, maybe? Do I hear influences on America (or hard to know who was influencing who), Fleetwood Mac (one of their songs started out reminding me of Tusk, which I LOVE BIG MUCH! ) Emerson Lake and Palmer.... but I don't know of course who influenced who.

Methinks that I should've heard them in the 70s, before the internet, when people got together and just listened to music together, or just listened to music on one's own, without so many diversions (and of course work and chores!). It's more difficult to really get intimate with challenging music now, don't you think? Or maybe I'm just old.

Thanks, I'll listen to more CB. I did hear some Heads are Rolling tracks, and I was wondering if I'm smart enough... :|

Lindy, wait till you hear The Day The Earth Caught Fire. You'll have a movie in your mind! City Boy have really descriptive lyrics and yes you have to think! But it's all fun! If you close your eyes and listen to "What A Night" you'd think it was ELO!
I hope I recommended something good to you, don't worry I won't blow my stack or my B-52's bouffant if you don't like some of it! After all it's good to share the music!

Listening to You Don't Have To Say You Love Me by Matt! So cool and calm!! Just exquisite!!
