We are Noel Coward fans Jon, and surpringly enough The Pet Shop Boys recorded "If Love Were All," this is on Youtube, but apparently Judy Garland was a knockout when she sang this at Carnegie Hall.
The "Kings of Swing" included Artificial Flowers in their show last year. It was brilliant.
We are looking forward to seeing this show again next month with Marian and Peter, featuring Mark Porter of course and Tony Benedict and
Paul Pashley. You can see "The Kings Of Swing on YOUTUBE This should whet your appetite.

I have just realised another mistake I made, I did put "Let Me Choose Life" in the running originally, sorry about that, my head is in bits, I think.
I think I will book my flight to that desert Island immediately, anyone else coming?

As long as it's going to be warm and sunny John.
We have been warned about the weather we can expect here with a severe drop in temperatures and bitterly cold. :(

I am enjoying this thread, what diverse muscal tastes we all have that overlap on occassions.

My list of 12 is proving impossible.
I keep returning to a group of 6 songs that opened up 'muiscal doors' for me, but finalising the remaining 6 is driving me insaine.
I don't think I want to go to your desert island.
You all pack far too light. :)

However, I shall have one last push tonight, choose the remaining 6 songs and apologise to the many artists I leave behind. :)

Hi Lena and Harry

I didn't know that Pet Shop Boys recorded "If Love Were All"; haven't heard this. I used to enjoy their recordings, though Neil Tennant could never be described as a singer; the overall production of their records however was fab.

JM recorded this song "If Love were all", on a very rare LP, called "Away from Home", which I think I sent you Jon.

I still have not got round to copying any more--but I will---eventually !!!

hi all

interested to hear that 'Kings of Swing' covered 'Artificial Flowers', its not a song I know much about apart from hearing Bobby Darin sing it. Is it from a show? Who else has sung it?

The 'Sesame Street' comments have brought a smile to my face. When we lived in Saudi in the 70s, the Aramco Oil Co provided our local TV and we were given a daily diet of US kids TV programmes. Thats where I first saw 'Sesame Street' and I loved it - my favourite character was the Cookie Monster although I liked them all, except Big Bird who I just found annoying! In a similar vein was the very zany and pyschedlic 'Electric Company', and from a totally different mould was 'Mr Rodgers Neighbourhood'. These last two will probably only mean something to Paul! Anyway, when we got home in 1976, 'Sesame Street' was being used in my school to help those with difficulties learning English, and the Muppets themselves were just about to hit our screens.

Its difficult for me to choose my favourite ABBA track, as they are all smashing. I chose 'Dancing Queen' because its always caused a rush to the dancefloor whenever I've seen it played at a disco, party etc and so it obviously makes a lot of people feel good.

Just realised put Eve instead of Eva. How could I?

What a din here.....Kids in bath, Graham on piano and trying to listen to the news! Not a moment's piece!

Amanda -- I knew we would see your list before Graham's! He's really struggling with this. Thanks for posting it. There are many great songs there (Hopelessly Devoted To You, Secret Love, and Vienna :D ). I think Ella's version of I Love Paris is the ultimate version of that song ... it captures the romance of Paris.

:?: But what about Flowers In The Window by Travis? It is so lovely. We should add that to make a baker's dozen! :)

Hi Amanda - -

Totally with you on OMD 'If you leave' - one of my fave tracks of the era and of course featured in 'Pretty in Pink'.

As a lover of Scandinavian pop, I also think that 'take on me' is a classic track. I remember hearing it and then seeing it on TV in 1985, just after I had left home and moved to London.

have you heard Kathy Kirbys version of 'Secret Love'? Its a bit poppier, but a great song none the less

Thank you for your replies!

Sorry Jeff about Travis and Keane! By the way we are both warming to their new album!
I'm really chuffed some of you liked OMD and A-ha. I would love to see them both in concert!
I love Souvenir too.
Back to A-ha... I saw Morten Harket on Loose Women a few months ago talking about their comeback and how he wished women would take his music seriously rather than looking at his looks! I spent a fortune adorning my walls as a teenager with my pocket money on his posters - what an insult!!!
:D
