Top of the class

Post by Terence Lee » Mon Jul 17, 2006 1:43 pm

Thanks for the compliments. Top of the class? Better late than never I suppose. Any input from the other fans regarding the composers of these obscure songs? It irks me that I can't find anything regarding Lover's Caravan.

Just found out that Peggy March also sang "It's That Time Again" and the composer is March. Not sure if that is her as well. The song is on her album of standards titled Get Happy.

Nice work Terence, and for all the time you spent. Our own intensive searching has produced very little. so we continue with the mission :?

Hi all.

Terence in mid summer it start's to get quite light by about 4 a.m. in a morning, especially with clear skies, and the birds start their "twittering" before that time. Now winter is a different story.

Love Caravan?

Post by Terence Lee » Mon Jul 17, 2006 6:50 pm

In my quest to find the composers of Lover's Caravan, what if the correct title is Love Caravan or simply Caravan?

Did Matt Monro tackle soul?
In 1979, Jimmie Raye wrote and released Love Caravan as a single. It was included in his album The Lover on the CRC label in 1980.

The song "Caravan" was popular with Ella Fitzgerald who sang it live at the Newport Jazz Festival on her CD "All Roads Lead To Rome" and Tony Bennett who released "Hot & Cool - Bennett Sings Ellington". Can this Duke Ellington/Irving Mills/Juan Tizol song perhaps be the one that Matt sang?

Hi Terence--well you seem to be the only one who has come up with any answers---I think we have all been checking out over here ,but getting nowhere.

Carry on with the good work--we want that "Rare Monro" to be complete :!:

More research

Post by Terence Lee » Tue Jul 18, 2006 4:39 am

Hi Marian

Thanks for the encouragement. I need to know if those recordings by Matt Monro were early radio broadcasts or studio recordings. My guess is that if they were studio recordings by EMI, Michele will not be facing this problem. If they are early radio broadcasts before Matt hit the big time, our research will take on a different slant.

Yes Marian that's how it seems, keep going Terence. We have seen the lyrics to" A Touch Of Your Love "that goes like....
Four repeated lines of
One Touch Of Your Love.....then,
One touch in the Morning
It's A Beautiful Day.
One Touch In THe Evening
You'll Be Coming My Way.
And All My Dreams Come True
I'll Do Anything For You
One Touch Of Your Love. ???
No info of Composers :x
We did see that Matt and Carmen Mc Rae sang with the "Airmen Of Note" in the Sixties, possibly on radio shows WMAL "Serenade In Blue," and "Music In The Air" but no indication of the songs. :x

This is far fetch. Could Lover's Caravan really be Lover's Concerto (I believe originally done by The Toys, and taken from a movement of a Clementi Sonatina)? It starts: "how gentle is the rain"

Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part, because I would love to hear Matt Monro sing this song. (Similar to how he took The Happening by the Supremes to a different setting and made it his own.)

Hi Paul. I like that song by The Toys from the 60's I believe it was, but I would be very surprised if Matt ever recorded it Paul, but you never know.
Paul just out of interest, you say you are a pianist, so can you tell us which venues you play.

"Lover's Caravan" on Multimedia Site

Post by hpooch » Thu Jul 20, 2006 4:57 am

The song is on Matt's Jukebox list of songs that Michele added long ago..
So if this site has the song for 30 seconds, why can't it be on the CD-"Rare Monro"---"The forbidden fruits of Lotus Land till you and your passion take command of me; Only fools would wait until tomorrow...."??

Heat wave

Post by Terence Lee » Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:10 am

heat wave

Post by cyril boylett » Thu Jul 20, 2006 6:22 am

yes we've noticed how hot it is across USA. My son who is a pro tennis coach in Vegas, tells me he drags himself off the courts at night, drained!
It's a funny tho hpooch, when we were there last, he warned us of the high temps. However, coming from the Aussie steamy heat , & stepping out into the dry desert heat, it was actually very pleasant. It certainly made the beer taste colder!! Can I add my admiration to Terence's dedication, son your something else. A real inspiration! cheers Cyril

My Grateful Thanks

Post by Administrator » Sun Jul 23, 2006 12:21 am

Sorry I have been out of touch for a few days but was on route to USA. Have now got here safely but have yet to be able to access my e-mail. Technology it drives you crazy but I can't live without it.

Anyways The Rare Monro has been put to bed with all 51 tracks, have added New York, New York and some rare jingles to the mix. Thank you Terence for all your hard work, it was very much appreciated.

The songs on Matt's Jukebox are songs that I chose to include and some are not owned by EMI, unfortunately there are a few that EMI cannot release because of legal reasons but I shall find a way around it eventually, let's face it, this rare album will quench the thirst for quite a few listeners.

Once again my grateful thanks to all of you who helped me on my quest
