Hi Marian

Yes, JM's version of "If Love Were All" is the only one I know (the one you sent me), so thanks for that. It would be nice to receive some more (rare) JM albums from you when you have the time - I haven't mentioned it recently as I didn't want to pester, but it would most definitely be appreciated.

Olivia Newton-John is a singer whose voice I've always liked. I believe she had a cancer scare quite recently but this may have blown over by now as I haven't heard any more about it. Don't know if she's still recording though.

I am hoping to give up on my Treasurers job, with my Wi very soon--which will give me some much needed free time, to catch up on various jobs-including copying my Lp's.

Alas, I cannot choose 12 songs for the desert island, I near to admitting defeat and will have to be shipwrecked empty handed.
Everytime I think i've got 12 songs, another one (hundred) pop into my head.

I wish this post had never been listed!
It's driving me insaine!!!!

:)
I do know one song for sure.
It is a song I was introduced to by Marian (from Reading) and for this I will be eternally grateful.

It is a simple song that is sang so majestically I am struggling to think of another vocalist who could of brought as much 'to the party'.
Toward the end of the song there is a line that is heartbreaking, a phrase sang with such emotion, it reminds me of a restrained explosion.

The song is: If There Ever Is A Next Time by Matt Monro.

That would be a must take.
1 down, 11 to go! :)

:?: What about a Strauss waltz, Robert? I was expecting you'd take at least one. :?

If you were allowed to take one for free, which would it be? I would choose Vienna Life. :D

Those are both wonderful, Robert. I also love Emperor Waltz, Voices of Spring, the Fledermaus Waltzes, and you can never get tired of The Blue Danube.

:? I seemed to have missed Gray's dozen. Was it included on a previous page? I know he mentioned If There Ever Is A Next Time, but then later mentioned another Matt Monro song, but I'd like to see the full dozen.

And it's time for a decision John on your ultimate song. Tomorrow when you sit in the sunshine with your tea, perhaps you can decide.

Gray has yet to give his dozen Jeff............................yawn (oh why are we waiting) as the song goes.........................

Hi All

After much wailing and knashing of teeth, I have finally come up with a list of 12 for a desert island.
But I aren't happy about it and may change it again in about 10 minutes time.

1) If There Ever Is A Next Time - Matt Monro (Matt at his most expressive)
2) If I Can Dream - Elvis Presley (Elvis proving he still had it with this knockout comeback song)
3) In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning - Frank Sinatra (Captures unrequented love perfectly)
4) September Song - Nat King Cole / Matt Monro (impossible for me to seperate the two artists )
5) Love Train - The O'Jays (in case anybody wants to boogie with me!) :)
6) Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On (one can live in hope)
7) My Whole World Ended - David Ruffin (what a singer, what a fantastic arrangement)
8 I Say A Little Prayer - Aretha Franklyn (If only for the piano intro)
9) Mother Natures Son - The Beatles (to prove music can be as delicate as a flower yet still move mountains)
10) 9th Symphony - Ode To Joy - Beethoven (A gift from God)
11) Soon We'll Be Found - Sia (My favourite song of 2008)
12) Jesus Christ Superstar - from the movie soundtrack (so energetic and to remind me of the many hours I've sat in a darkened room watching flickering images on a wall)
and as I'm going, I can take...
13) Jesamine - by me! :) (to remind me I can do things!)
