Thanks for the info Mariana and Jon!! I'm just waiting to hear for the shop in Boston and then will venture out to LA this weekend maybe. I'm just excited about "Mathis Is" because it's a Thom Bell/Linda Creed album and I love the stuff they did with the Detroit Spinners (just Spinners here in the US) and the Stylistics. I also loved "I'm Coming Home".

You Light Up My Life, is an awesome album and there is even a video of Johnny and Denice Williams on YouTube performing "Emotion" on Soul Train! I think I played their version more than the original Samantha Sang!!

My JM re-release CDs arrived; haven't had time to take in the previously unreleased album of Broadway songs much but have had a first listen: nothing leapt out at me track-wise but the songs seem decent - will have to listen more. This and its sister album come on one disc, strangely, whereas the accompanying twofer is on two discs.

Happy Birthday to Johnny Mathis.

Here's a clip of Johnny during 1974 singing The Stylistics hit "I'm Stone In Love With You" on the dance show "Soul Train"

I don't know what's up with that outfit, but it was cool he bridged the generation gaps. I guess the lp "I'm Coming Home" brought him to a younger audience.

Well, he certainly has had some ups and downs over the years---but I guess that would be the same for anyone with over 50 years of singing.

Every year at this time The Fan Club would have a special weekend in Manchester [normally], where we would get together, have lunch, watch videos/dvds---parties in our room. We would usually hold a raffle and collect for a present for JM's birthday--usually in the form of a donation to a Charity---and on the odd occasion, he would turn up-if he was doing concerts at the time---we had such good times, and i really miss those magic weekends with my lovely friends.

Mariana, he sounds like a really nice guy to do that for the fan club! Oh yes and I do love his version of "Sweet Love Of Mine". It's become one of my new faves. It's a little more uptempo than the Spinners version, but the emotive quality and the yearning of the lyrics are delivered so gracefully.

I don't know what it is, but Johnny has that quality of bringing out the emotions to the song, unlike some of the singers now who show no depth to the lyrics. Ok, I just sounded like Simon Cowell..ugh!!! LOL

A question for Marian, our resident Johnny Mathis expert. Over the last few days a number of JM songs have been posted on Youtube which I have never heard or knew existed before. Most sound like they're from his early period but at least one was perhaps recorded in the '70s. I'm sure they are not on any of his albums or even on the rare "Away From Home" collection. Marian, could they be single releases which were never placed on an album, either of original material or a compilation?

Here are the titles of the songs:

- Your Teenage Dreams
- Taste of Tears
- Listen Lonely Girl
- Walking Tall (this is the 70s' one)
- The Fall of Love
- No More
- The Glass Mountain
- A Great Night For Crying
- Take Good Care of Her (also 70s)

I'd be interested to know your thoughts.

They are all singles that have never been released on cd or lp.

Gerry Stonestreet reviews Johnny Mathis CDS in the latest "IN TUNE" magazine that arrived today... Tender Is The Night/ The Wonderful World Of Make Believe the first batch of Mathis on Mercury with liner notes of great interest and information by the writer James Ritz, and include quotes from Johnny himself on the albums and the songs chosen.
The second CD.. Love Is Everything on One disk. :) includes the unreleased Broadway LP. Great songs on both of these. :)
