Hi Keith--I am reluctant to criticise you, as I know how knowledgable you are about the English Language--but I wanted to query the word "Beveridge" with you-I would have expected it to be "Beverage"--is yours an alternative spelling--or maybe another word with a slightly different meaning ?

Hi Seamus---so good news, you are deciding to stay with us.

How annoying for you to do a whole load of typing--and then to lose it all.
It has happened to me too, on more than one occasion. But this hint may help you, if you are planning a long posting---write it all up in Word, save it---then copy and paste onto the site--at least that way, if it vanishes, you can just go back to Word and copy again.

You are not the only one to still be typing with one finger--that is how I type too!! I never learnt typing when I was working, and in fact, when I bought my first computer, I had never touched a keyboard. So I just learnt as I went along--and in fact I still am learning. The important thing is to get there in the end , one way or another.

post and paste

Post by SEAMUS » Mon Nov 10, 2008 5:39 pm

Hi Mariana
Thanks a lot for your advice, ive searched everywhere for that post i knocked up for L&H,but no luck.Wonder where they go ? Never mind ,i will have another go later.
Apart from everything else, ive been busy over the last month decorating our sittingroom, its all done now,so i will get the tuition book out now and learn to copy and paste,as right this moment i dont have a clue!but i will get their, and i really appreciate your advice and help.

Im improving slightly with some areas, and today i sent off a photo of my neice and i,to the wizard murph,i know it went,so keeping my fingers crossed, and then you can all see this irish nutter! :)

I dont give in easy,i feel ive improved a lot since i took up playing with this machine, and while,at times, its come very close to flying out the window,my confidence somehow returns when i get some things correct.
Thanks to Michelle, ive now got my left hand involved in typeing, like hitting the capital button. Before i was just bombing around the keyboard typeing everything in capitals, and never realised it was not the done thing, but we live and learn, and at least the left hand is getting exercise now! :D

Now for some study, what was it you said Mariana, bucket of paste, sorry, copy and paste, cracking on into that now, will let you know how i get on.

Keep smiling, its about the only thing we are not taxed on these days.

 Seamus

I'm glad you have decided to stay with us Seamus.

Here's another typing hint. Remember to hit the space bar after each period and comma. That really helps in reading the postings! :)

You are definately improving Seamus. I know it's not easy, especially when there is no-one at hand to advise you. I am still learning-and making mistakes along the way--but how else can you find out about these things.

That was good advice that Michele gave you, and it is good to see you are
typing "properly" as it were.

Thanks for spotting my spelling mistake, Mariana;
somehow I morphed the word into the name of the
man, Beveridge, whose report to government was
instrumental in the setting up of the NHS. I think I may
soon need treatment therefrom for incipient dementia. :?

Hi Seamus

I used to be a real regular here myself, but its now down to a few visits a week so I've missed the discussion that you prompted last week  I won't go over what is old ground now, I am sure you are getting used to some of the real characters that inhabit this part of cyber-space, and hopefully realised that we/they are in fact an incredibly friendly community! I have compared visits to this site with popping down to a village post office before - you get to know people here so so well. I'm glad you've decided to stay on and help the site grow. Like any community it needs new blood!
Michael

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......

THE SICK NOTE.

Post by SEAMUS » Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:50 pm

Hi Lena & Harry.
You may have come accross this Irish fun Ballad in the past, but hopefully it will give you both a good giggle. Many artists have recorded it,but i have it on tape, recorded by the Dubliners. Its great to listen to,and i think you might be able to hear it via YOUTUBE.So here goes,

THE SICK NOTE.

Dear boss i write this note to tell you of my plight,
and at this time of writing i am not a pretty sight,
My body is all black and blue,my face a deadly grey,
And i hope you,ll understand why im not at work today.

While working on the 14th floor, some bricks i had to clear
and throwing them down from such a height was not a good idea.
The Foreman wasn,t very pleased ,he being an awful sod.
He said id have to take them down the ladder in me hod.

Well....shifting all them bricks by hand, it seemed so very slow,
So i hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below,
but in my haste to do the job,i was too blind to see
That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me .

Well, when i came down,i cut the rope, the barrel fell like lead,
And clinging tightly to the rope i started up instead,
I shot up like a rocket, but to my dismay i found,
That half way up ,i met the barrel coming down.

Now the barrel broke my shoulder,as to the ground it sped
And when i reached the top ,i struck the pully with my head
I still clung on though numbed and shocked, from this almighty blow
When the barrel spilled out half the bricks,14 floors below.

Well now when the bricks had had fallen from the barrel to the floor,
I then outweighed the barrel, and i started down once more.
Still clinging tightly to the rope, i headed for the ground
Where i fell among the broken bricks that were all scattered round.

As i lay there moaning on the floor ,sure i thought id passed the worst,
When the barrel struck the pully wheel ,and then the bottom burst,
A shower of bricks came down on me ,i had not got a hope,
And as i laid there on the ground ,i let go the bloody rope.

Now the barrel, being heavier,it started down once more,
It smashed right accross me ,as i lay there on the floor,
It broke three ribs and my left arm, and i can only say,
I hope you,ll understand why im not at work today. :(

LENA,HARRY,
ABOVE IS MY EFFORT TO CHEER YOU GUYS UP,AFTER YOUR NASTY WEEKEND.HOPE YOUR OVER THE WORST NOW,AND BOUNCE BACK ASAP .KEEP STRONG,KEEP SMILING.

Hi Seamus, I have heard that song before--but never really appeciated it all until now-it really is very funny, and I'm sure Lena and Harry will be amused-now that they have got over the first shock.

By the way--did you copy and paste--or risk posting it straight on the site ??

BUCKET OF PASTE.

Post by SEAMUS » Tue Nov 11, 2008 4:02 pm

Top of the afternoon to all you guys.

Mariana,it was the mention of Lena and Harrys experience on their 9th floor that reminded me of that song, and thought in sharing it with them, would inject some fun and raise their spirits ,after what they went tru.
Sorry ,but i did not paste and copy, still trying to get my head around that exercise, but i will crack it,eventually, and thanks again.I typed it out and took a chance with the submit button, and bingo,it worked. :D

Yesterday i Emailed Murph with a snap of my niece and i,but as its not their yet,im wondering if that request also done a runner.Perhaps the guy is busy,or did not receive it,or it takes a bit of time.I will try again next week,if necessary.

With all the interests i have,i can see i can have a lot of fun here, once i learn all the tricks of computing.I love music, photography, football, golf,
good humour, joke sharing, animals, nature, birds,( feathered kind)
 ,writing,crosswords,travel,cooking ,Man Utd,Liverpool,and Newcastle.
My music is varied,classical,country,60/70s,Irish,folk,some jazz, some reggi, and just about anything that does not interfer with my tinnitus !Matt
,Gordon Lightfoot ,Simon & Garfunkel,Traveling Wilburys,Mark Knopfler,
Eric Clapton,Chris Rea,Gallagher&Lyle,Fleetwood Mac,are among my fav artists,Fav females being Enya,Iris Dement,Nancy Griffiths, all are pleasing to my ears, except the one with the buzz!

Have it in one ear, sort of got used to it now,but its handy when Her indoors is having a nag at me! bless her! :)
As im a wee bit older than Babs,im sort of a stay at home
hubby, retired, but the good lady still works.Gives me a chance to practise my guitar, and study this machine.

Bye for now folks take care and keep smiling.

Seamus
