ROD STEWART

Post by mariana44 » Sun Nov 04, 2012 8:05 pm

I do not know how many of you like Rod Stewart singing "The Great American Songbook--I love them all.

I just spotted on Tv that Rod has a Christmas album due out next week-called "Merry Christmas Baby"--2 version, a plain and a deluxe-the deluxe has more tracks. Available on Amazon.

I cannot recall Rod singing Christmas before, but this looks a very traditional cd. I know already that I will love it.

Some years ago on holiday in Poland my hotel played a Rod Stewart American songbook every morning at breakfast, I was so sick of it I was ready to say something but on my last morning they changed the record - thank God!!!!

I quite like Rod but I think his American songbooks are dreadful. He just isn't that type of singer, I feel the same with Neil Diamond singing Christmas music, I am a huge fan but his Xmas albums leave me cold.

I have to disagree Karl--I think the American songbooks suit Rod down to the ground--normally before, I only ever liked a couple of Rod tracks--but I have all 5 songbooks and really love them.

Thanks Eman for the info on Blake Shelton's Christmas cd---I just went to Amazon and ordered it--it was over £17.00, but in the new and used section it was just over £6.00 new. I read that he has just won several big awards !

It did not show up when I did a search on Amazon on Christmas cds---but this one did that my sister is going to buy---Olivia Newton John, and John Travolta !!

You're welcome Mariana, yep he sure did win an award. He's the biggest country music star on the planet these days! A Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta Xmas cd? Hmmm...I must look for it. LOL

I'm with Karl on this one. I haven't heard the full albums, but some of the tracks here and there. Don't like any of them, but I don't like any of his rock and pop songs either; really cannot stand Maggie May, Tonight's the Night, Have I Told You Lately, and Rhythm of My Heart or whatever it's called.

It will take a miracle for me to listen to anything by Blake Shelton. He (and all the judges) are very annoying on The Voice. The host and some of the singers are the only good things about that show.

Really glad that Olivia is recording again. And she's touring the US currently. Hopefully a new album of pop songs soon...

Well it wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing. I liked Rod's Vagabond Heart cd and listened to that a lot however I was very disappointed with his Soul cd - that went to a charity shop. I haven't lsitened to Rod for a long time.

I've said before nobody can sing Sailing like Rod not even Vince Hill, I was so disappointed when I heard his album version as I thought he would have nailed it.

I know we all have different tastes--it keeps things interesting !!

Jill just preordered the Olivia Newton John cd last night. I am hoping I like the Blake Shelton cd--I only have one other cd of his.

Paul, you may be thinking of "You're in my heart" by Rod Stewart, which is one of the original Rod tracks that I really love--another one that was on one of our car cassettes, and played constantly.

True Paul, Blake Shelton is annoying on the voice, but I like his music and same with Adam Levine's Maroon 5. The ones I can't really stand are Christina Augillera and Cee-Lo Green. UGH!! I saw that Cee-Lo also had an Xmas album but I passed on it. He just had that one novelty song called "Forget You (F*** You)" then nothing else that I can remember or care to hear. As for Christina, I didn't like her when she first came out as a rival to Britney Spears.

I'm with you Paul and hope ONJ does record another album of pop songs. I still listen to my old albums every now and then.
