Rarest Matt
Hi Keith, The Story of Ireland features on the 12" LP Tony Blackburn meets Matt Monro and can regularly be found on ebay for just a few pounds. It also has Matt singing some other rare material...Prisoner of Love, Another Time Another Place, Have Guitar Will Travel, The Golden Age and I'll Never Have a Sweetheart. The sheet music for Story of Ireland has come up on ebay several times recently. Frederick.
The voice of Matt Monro is part of my life. I take his music with me wherever I go.
Your quite right - Polka Dots and Moonbeams is just as rare (along with a number of acetates in the estate collection - you'll have to wait for the book to find out what they are!)
However these are not releases they are private recordings so were one offs in the first place. I was only really talking about commercial releases as far as rarities are concerned.
You may guess as much as you wish, I'm afraid I cannot say who has the record and no, they are not well known or a member of this forum. They wish to remain anonymous and I must respect that.

Thanks Marian and Ed. I have printed off a copy
of the lyric. As a token of my gratitude I print below
a lyric I wish Matt had recorded:
A little bit of heaven fell from out the sky one day,
And it landed in the ocean in a spot not far away,
And when the angels found it it looked so sweet and fair;
They said suppose we leave it, for it looks so peaceful there.
So they sprinkled it with stardust just to make the shamrocks grow,
'tis the only place you'll find them no matter where you go,
Then they dotted it with silver to make its lakes so grand,
And when they had it finished sure they called it, Ireland.

Yes Mariana, I have seen the lyric of
Story of Ireland and I shall soon have the pleasure
of listening to Matt's rendition thanks to that
great guy, Ed from Orlando.
He has just emailed me to say that he will send me
a CD that includes the song plus some others he has
added, all as a goodwill gesture.
I must say that I am deeply touched and grateful
for such kindness; a wonderful example of the Christmas
spirit in action.
Keith
PS Ed met Michele, Mickie and Max when they were
on holiday in Florida in September; lovely down-to-earth
folk was his impression of them. The Matt Monro magic
is boundless.
