A New Game, Remember This Verse? Just Name The Refrain.
A new game, just reply with the Song Title from the chosen verse The first person guessing the correct refrain and song Title then takes a turn with their chosen verse. Also if you wish adding any comments about the song
There are manys verses fom various singers and some from Matt's collection too. I'll start with an easy one........
When I Was A Young Man and Courting The Girls.
I Played Me A Waiting Game.
If A Maid Refused Me With Tossing Curls.
I'd Let The Old World Take A Couple Of Whirls.
And As Time Came Around She Came My Way.
And As Time Came Around She Came.

Hi Lena and Harry. I believe the song is "The Shadow of Your Smile" a song Matt passed over at the beginning, only for the song to be a smash for Tony Bennett. Matt mention's this on the Touch of Class CD, by saying Tony contacted Matt to thank him for passing the song over to him.
Now the problem is, I shouldn't have had a guess, as I am not very good with opening verses (being quite young
I haven't the experience of all these songs you have heard over the years Lena and Harry et al). Off hand I can only think of the verse to "Stardust" but that would be too easy. Sorry Lena and Harry, can you put up another verse please

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Sorry, Robert, but Lena and Harry's verse is from September Song, not The Shadow Of Your Smile. It's a wonderful opening verse. Matt Monro doesn't sing it, but his recording is still one of my favourite recordings.
I guess I should be happy on two accounts: (a) I know opening verses, and (b) I'm younger than the infamous "10 Downing Street equation".
Here's an opening verse that is not one of my favourites, but the song is tender:
"Cathedral bells were tolling and our hearts sang on,
Was it the spell of Paris or the April dawn?
Who knows, if we shall meet again?
But when the morning chimes ring sweet again:"
Guess the song.

Hello everyone. See I said that I wasn't very good with opening verses of song's, as I got into easy listening music not so very long ago. Well that's my excuse anyway and I am sticking to it
Paul, nobody know's for sure what number Downing Street I meant. Everyone assumes #10 though

This song is "I'll Be Seeing You "and has been recorded by many vocalists Paul, both male and female and generally seeped in nostalgic thoughts of the Forties.
Now this song has been considered for many years by many fans of this vocalist as their No 1 Favourite
Here is the verse........ Ive Heard About Houdini and the rest of them.
And I've Put You Up Against The Rest Of Them.
As far as i'm concerned you're the tops
And You Don't Resort To props
Things I Used To Think Were Inconceivable
You've A Way Of Making Them Believable
And Upon A Night Like This. I'm Afraid You Just
can't miss......

Could the answer be........
You sigh, the song begins, you speak and I hear violins, it's magic
The stars desert the skies and rush to nestle in your eyes, it's magic
Although I only know it by Doris Day from a movie, the song of course written by the great Sammy Cahn

Thanks Harry Thanks Lena
good to see you again..
here's a spoken intro that gets missed from many versions of this lovely song....
In the hustle of the day, we're all inclined to miss
Little things that mean so much
A word, a smile, and a kiss
When a woman loves a man, he's a hero in her eyes
And a hero he can always be if he'll just realize........
