Sir Terry - the Tog Master!

Post by Hilary » Mon Jul 24, 2006 10:31 am

Hi Everyone,

Sir Terry Wogan is back from his holidays today.
It's amazing how DIFFERENT his music is from Johnny Walker's!
Apparently Terry will be presenting the Johnny Walker Sunday show on Radio 2 for three weeks. (not sure if he starts this Sunday or the next one!)

Terry said that he will be playing many of his favourite artists/songs on the show so it looks like the music will be very DIFFERENT to the music that Johnny Walker normally plays. It might be worth tuning in and hearing the show for the three weeks that Sir Terry is presenting it  :D

Hi Hilary, we had problems with the PC yesterday and were'nt able to listen to the usual programmes, so tuned in to Johnny Walker, nice man shame about the music.
So, Sir Terry will be standing in. for a week or two. Well here goes then, prepare ourselves for "The Floral Dance" and "Over The Rainbow". You never know Tel may one day surprise us and play Peter Dawson and Judy Garland's renditions.

Hello everyone. ANYONE would be better to listen to, than the music Johnny Walker play's. Why on earth Radio 2 got rid of Ed Stewart, I don't know. But he was certainly pushed, as he did not want to go :x :x

Hi Lena, Harry and Robert,

Maybe Terry will surprise us all and play a good selection of songs.
When you listen to him on a regular basis you know when he likes something and when he plays an artist because they are on the playlist.

We know that he likes Matt, Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy, Nat King Cole and many others too, so hopefully they will be included on the show in the next couple of weeks.

On the other hand, maybe he will go the other way and play some heavy metal :o or he could play the best of Eurovision 2006!
It will be a very short show then won't it?

Lena and Harry - I'm glad that your PC is feeling better now.
Maybe it is suffering with the heat like the rest of us!

I was always a fan of Terry's irreverent broadcasting style when he had his breakfast show back in the early 80s, even though my listening tastes were more John Peel at the time, I loved Wogan's presentation style while I was getting ready for school. I always felt that the later generations of hipper radio hosts owed a great deal to Wogan's breath of fresh air in mainstream BBC broadcasting. One of the things I miss about the UK is Terry's Eurovision commentaries, they take it a little bit too seriously over here (then again they take ANY competition a little bit too seriously over here)

Now that you've mentioned Eurovision, i forgot to say that, on my recent cruise, one of the evening shows was Eurovision through the Years" and thay sang "I love the little things" and mentioned Matt although they did say he was a bus conductor! and the guy who sang it has a bus conductor's uniform on complete with ticket machine!

Hi Edgar and everyone. Do you remember a while back I mentioned that Matt was called a "bus conductor" in the film Little Voice by Michael Caine's character

Hi Edgar and all, yes we are sure that Terry will play some decent stuff. We haven't been listening to his programme regularly for a while now but feel sure that he will get the right balance.
We know that we are going back a bit here, but we did used to listen in regularly when Jimmy Young was on Radio 2 and we enjoyed the banter between him and Terry, all quite witty really and off the cuff for that time in the morning, until poor old Jim got the big heave-o. O.k he was Eighty and had a good innings with the BBC, but he took it pretty badly. He made a recording of "Too Young" in 1951  and other nice recordings. Well, we thought so. :)
Robert ,yes we do remember your mention of Little Voice, and Matt was a Bus Conductor. Hadn't done their homework had they.

Yes Robert, we'd forgotten that, and then there was something about Raymondo :? :?
It's amazing this confusion between bus driver and conductor. :?
Those people are among the rare few then who cannot say that they had been on Matt's bus .

Actually, we don't spend that much on a cruise. All the gorgeous food is included and we usually take a bottle or three for the cabin ( for medicinal use only, you understand :D ) so we can't wait for the next one, New England in the Fall with all those lovely trees.
