Ok everyone--try this one--

The world is lyrical,
Because a miracle,
Has brought my lover to me.
Though he's some other place, his face I see.

At night I creep in bed,
And never sleep in bed,
But Look above in the air.
And to my greatest joy, my love is there.

Hi Marian, A great Rogers and Hart number, recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Matt Dennis, Johnnie Mathis.

" Dancing On The Ceiling."

She Dances Overhead, On The Ceiling Near My Bed
In My Sight All Throught The Night.
I Try To Hide In Vain Underneath My Counterpane,
But There My Love, Up There Above.
I Whisper Go Away Lover, It's Not Fair
But I'm So Grateful To Discover, That She's Still There.
I Love My Ceiling More, Since It Is A Dancing Floor.
Just For My Love.
Here's another..............
I've Wined And Dined On Mulligan Stew And Never Wished For Turkey,
As I Hitched And And I Hiked And Grifted Too, From Maine To Alberquerque.
Alas I Missed The Beaux Arts Ball And What Is Twice As Sad,
I Was Never At A Party Where They Honoured Noel Coward.
But Social Circles Spin Too Fast For Me, My Hobohemia Is The Place To Be. :)

The Lady Is A Tramp.
Dame Shirley Bassey sings a sizzling hot version!

'The more I read the papers, the less I comprehend
The world and all its capers and how it all will end
Nothing seems to be lasting but that isn't our affair
We've got something permanent,
I mean in the way we care"

Hi Terence, great song this one, great lyrics,
" Our Love Is Here To Stay".
It's Very Clear Our Love Is Here To Stay, Not For A Year But Ever And A Day.

Here's Another verse, Our Matt has recorded this song, verse included ......

Maybe I'm Old Fashioned, Feeling As I Do.
Maybe I'm Living In The Past.
But When I Meet The Right Girl
I Know That I'll Be True
My First Love Will Be My Last.

Hi Lena and Harry, Terence--I knew those last 2 "The Lady is a Tramp" and "Our love is here to stay " and Yes my last one was "Dancing on the Ceiling".

The new one I believe is "When I fall in love".--a real classic.

So here is my new one--

"You don't know that I felt good, when we up and parted
You don't know I knocked on wood, gladly broken-hearted
Worrying is through, I sleep all night.
Appetite and health restored
You don't know how much I'm BORED!"

one of my favourite Frank Sinatra songs that one Marian, Lorenz Hart's "I wish I were in love again"

how about this one...

Could anyone among us have an inkling or a clue
What magic feats or wizardry and voodoo you can do?
And who would ever guess what powers you possess
And who would not be stunned to see you prove
There's more to us than surgeons can remove
So much more than we ever knew
So much more were we born to do

Hi Marty---yes you are quite right---although my Frank Sinatra version does not include that intro.

Your new one has me stumped---it does not even ring a tiny bell!! I think someone else is going to have to get this one.

The Sinatra version didn't have the intro as you said Marian, he only recorded the song once, that was with the Riddle arrangement that graced the wonderful "A Swingin' Affair" and the intro was left out. Sometimes of course Frank used spoken introductions to songs that others didn't use.."Try a little tenderness" for example, and other times the arrangement called for them to be left out as in the fine Sinatra/Count Basie version of "Fly Me To The Moon"

A clue to the song above though....it's a show tune, and one that Matt did beautifully (although without this introduction)

Hi Mart, and Marian I't's surprising how many singers who recorded and popularised a song didn't include the verse.
This song is "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" by the American composer of Hollywood and Broadway productions Burton Lane with Lyricist Jay lerner.
Here's one that you will all know :) ....... another Matt special.

Hey there Tex, What you say,
Step aboard partner it's my day.
Lend an ear and listen to my version
Of A really solid Tennessee Excursion.....

Hi Lena and Harry--could this one be "Chatanooga cho choo"---it is the only one I can think of that mentions Tennessee in it.

Yes that's right Marian, Chattanooga Choo Choo, we have always associated this number with the film "Sun Valley Serenade" Dorothy Dandridge sang this song, while Ice skating star Sonja Henie the Three times Olympic gold Medallist skated her heart out, while that lovely ballad I" know Why and So Do You" was played in the background by Glenn Miller and all the girl patrons in the cinema including me and my friends were waiting in anticipation for John Payne to take his shirt off and display his well known physique and broad shoulders.
OOOOH lets have a verse Marian

Hi all--here is your new verse---another oldie---

Once there was a thing called spring,
When the world was writing verses
Like yours and mine.
All the lads and girls would sing
When we sat at little tables
And drank May wine.
Now April, May and June
Are sadly out of tune.
Life has stuck the pin in the balloon.

Marian, this is another Rogers and Hart classic.
" Spring Is Here." sang with tender emotion with Sinatra, on "Only The Lonely" album, but many singers recorded this song, to name a few, Johnny Mathis, Rosemary Clooney, Nat King Cole, Shirley Bassey, and both Tony Bennett and Carly Simon included the verse, but Matt's rendition on this one is awesome, his breath control and ease with the lyrics is unmatchable.
Here is another......
Wildcat Kelly Looking Mighty Pale, was standing by the Sherrifs side.
And when the Sherriff said I'm sending you to Jail, Wildcat Kelly smiled and said....
