Hi

I know it's not a Matt Monro song, but has anyone heard 'Wave' by Oscar Peterson?
Gosh, it's gorgeous. So gorgeous in fact that I can fall asleep half way through it! :)
Paul, another one for you to play for me please the next time we meet up and there is a piano in the vicinity. ;)

Very sorry, Gray, but Wave is not in my repertoire. I have a few arrangements of Wave, but none of them have clicked with me. I'd much rather play Desperado, Beethoven, and Elgar for you. Elgar's music is definitely the #2 de-stress music after Matt Monro.

I will search for Oscar Peterson's version of Wave; I've never heard it.

My current Matt Monro de-stress track is The Touch Of Your Love from The Rare Monro. I think it's from a classical piece but I can't recall which one. This song has been in my head all week. The other night when a lady served me a salad in a restaurant, I actually sang "thank you" in the melody of The Touch Of Your Love.

Johnny Mathis sang "Wave" on one of his earlier recordings--a really nice song.

Paul, I would have loved to be there when you sang to your waitress--I hope she appreciated it.!!

It is difficult to sing WAVE but there are glorious low notes to hit which some singers avoid by compromising the melody. Cleo Laine is not one of them.

Paul

Isn't 'A Touch Of Your Love' lovely?
I have a friend by the way, who plays the song on classical guitar, I'll ask him what the original song is called when I see him next.

I had never heard this song with lyrics to it before, I seem to recall many years ago hearing an instrumental version playing, perhaps by someone like John Williams on the guitar, so it is indeed a treat to hear the words, especially by Matt. :P

I listened to Matt singing 'Sweet Lorraine' in my dinner hour at work yesterday, talk about making a song your own.
I always associated this with Nat King Cole, but Matt's version is sublime and so delicate.
It is a really wonderful recording, I recommend you all listen to it once more!

I will listen to Sweet Lorraine again. Actually it's on several of my CDs and I usually skip it. I've never heard anything particularly special about it; it's certainly not on my top 100 MM songs. But I'll give it another chance.

Hi Everyone,
I have to say "portrait of my love" & also agree with Marian "on days like these" It is so well suited to the opening scene of the Italian Job 8) ,

I hope Sweet Lorraine connects with you this time, Paul.

Like you, I have heard Matt's version before, but never listened intently.

It wasn't until the song randomly played on my i-pod that it struck me how deliberately delicate Matt's delivery was.
That infers a thought process to Matt's time in the studio: "How will I sing this song?" - rather than just turning up and laying down any old thing.

Hope the song impresses you when you listen again!

Hi Gray
Although it isn't Matt's style at all, I 've often wondered what
he would make of a C&W type of song. Well, I got my answer
on a CD kindly sent to me by Ed from Orlando. The title is, Just a
Heartbreak Ago and it is yet another example of Monro magic.
I heartily recommend it to forum members whose musical lives
haven't been lit up by the rendition.
Keith

PS Great result for Leeds on Saturday!

Hi Keith

Thanks for the tip, will look out for that.
Yes, a good result on Saturday and a good performance too, Southend at home tonight, I'm keeping everything crossed we can make it three wins in a row.

Arsenal let me down at the weekend, had they won at Cardiff I would of won £27 :(

...I must add that I am not a gambler!
Someone at work who is thrust a betting sheet under my nose and asked me to pick out some results (as I'm always talking about football and he wanted me to put my money where my mouth was.)

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before, but I adore 'When I Look Into Your Eyes'.
It's dreamy, the arrangement perfection.
