Re: HMV
That's how it was at Tower, when the announced they were closing, they had a sale but only on certain items, and then they slowly started sending back their stock and what was left until they closed was stuff no one would buy. They were even selling the shelves and display racks!!
Re: HMV
I'm very upset to read the reports about HMV. I hope they can find a buyer. I spent so many enjoyable hours in dozens of HMV stores and most especially 150 Oxford Street. I remember one time I spent an entire Saturday afternoon there.

Re: HMV
Karl, if FOPP is an indy store it will probably stay open unlike the major chains. Here the major chains that sell cd's are Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Fry's. Not too good of a selection, but I'm glad of indy stores like "Record City" as they order things for me that I can't find in the chain stores. They also order my UK stuff if my Grandfather or Uncle can't find them for me.

Re: HMV
It is sad that 66 stores are to close and that round about a thousand jobs are to go but at least the whole company has not collapsed.
We are hoping our local store will remain open but we are not holding our breath.
Things move so quickly these days that nothing stays the same but we guess that's called progress. As soon as one piece of technology hits the market place there's a newer version hot on its heels.
We always say though that without technology all of us here on the forum would miss out so much as we can keep right up to date with all things Matt and beyond.

Some good news?...
Supermarket group Asda is eyeing up a possible bid for failed music chain HMV as the first wave of stores prepare to shut down. HMV collapsed into administration in January with more than 1,500 staff losing their jobs and a further 1,500 in the balance.
It is understood Asda has held talks with administrators from Deloitte about saving the brand rather than just converting the sites into convenience stores like Morrisons, which snapped up six sites to turn into its M local stores.
More than 100 stores across the country are set for closure in the next few weeks, with administrators keen to find a solution before the end of the month when the next rent payment is due.
Asda has little presence in the convenience store market, which is dominated by Tesco and Sainsbury's. However, it may be looking at any potential offer as an opportunity to expand. HMV, which has debts of £170m, suffered poor Christmas sales following years of decline.
There was some hope for the company's future after a temporary deal was struck with film studios and music labels to ensure new releases, such as the James Bond film Skyfall and Madagascar 3, continued to flow to its stores.
Negotiations with specialist investor Hilco continue after it acquired the secured debts from Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group. The company had already bought HMV Canada in 2011 and has built relationships with several distributors.
Asda and Deloitte declined to comment.

Re: HMV
Paul Asda is our equivalent of Walmart, you are right they don't do convenience stores but focus on huge supermarkets.
I hope they do take over soem of the HMV's as we don't want to lose them all, even if they found space in their own Asda stores as their selection ofo cd's dvd's is rather limited.

Re: HMV
Wouldn't grumble too much if Asda took over some of their sales. We have little choice except for the internet now, but it's still nice to browse the shops.
