Rita Macneil R.I.P.

Post by john » Wed Apr 17, 2013 10:25 am

I have just read the very sad news that the Canadian country singer Rita Macneil has died following complications after surgery aged just 68. I have enjoyed her music for about 25 years ever since I saw her appear on Wogan. She wrote the majority of her songs, she was a lovely singer.

That is very sad John, I know she was one of your favourites.

Karl, I think you may be thinking of Reba McEntire---she has red hair, and acts--and just happens to be my favourite female country singer-i have lots of her csds and dvds.

OMG.. I love Reba also Mariana. She was big in the 80's/90's but I believe is now concentrating on acting. I liked her because in her songs/acting she is a strong woman (and yes in real life) who bounces back from everything and not like some others who cry and cry. Which is typical in country music.
Not familiar with Rita Macneil, but it is sad to hear of her passing at 68 which is too young.

Funny you should say that Marian, on her most recent dvd recorded about 4 years ago she told the audience a story on how on her travels people confused her with Reba McEntire, she was quite a bit larger in size than Reba, but she joked about it and the audience all laughed with her. A very nice and down to earth lady.

I guess there names are fairly similar, so easy to confuse them--but their voices are very different.

Eman, did you ever see Reba in South Pacific, she played the part of Nellie--obviously--but the whole show came out on dvd quite a few years ago. although I had to buy it from US in US format as it was never available over here--plus I got 2 dvds where she sings--but each song is like a little play, as she acts the part as well as sings it. Didn't she have her own series on US Tv at one time, I vaguely remember--I think she is still recording as I bought a new cd-well, a couple of years ago--my favourite ever song from her is "The Greatest man I never knew"--I have seen her sing it on youtube, plus as a duet with Kelly Clarkson, but it was not a very good clip--looks like someone took it at a concert with a mobile phone !!
