THE BEARS

Post by karl » Thu Apr 25, 2013 10:36 pm

Did anyone watch the documentary on the Grizzly's in Alaska? It was really interesting, what a hard life they have finding food for their cubs, similar to the Polar Bears programme a few months ago. You tend to feel sorry for them as their cubs are under threat from other bears and wolves etc:

The remote cameras capture some great shots.

No, I try to avoid wildlife programmes Karl. Although I love animals, I always end up being sad, and they cannot really portray a life in the wild for these creatures. These programmes are done primarily for entertainment, and I feel they are exploiting these beautiful animals. Leave them alone I say.

I don't think that at all Marian, it shows the hardships that the animals have to endure. There is no exploitation involved, I think if you watched them you would see what I mean.

I was very impressed with the professional team as when the animals got too close for comfort they would crouch down and talk in calm tones to show they were not there to harm them, also youii do not look the animals on the eye as that shows aggression, they also explained that the wrong thing to do is shout or run but stay calm.

The programme really showed the hardships the animals go through in their lives and how they take case of their cubs and play with them, one highlight was the mother embracing her cub and rolling down a hill with it.
