Birth of the blues.

Post by Moobugg » Thu May 02, 2013 10:43 am

Hi all.

I have just discovered the song birth of the blues. And, after listening to all versions consider Matt's to be the best. There is only one video of Matt singing this song on You Tube, are there any others out there ??
Matt looks really well in this video. Can anyone tell me what year and where this was.

Regards
M

Hi,

There are quite a few versions of Birth of the Blues.

Live in Australia
Live in Manila (on album "Born free")
Early version on Matt Uncovered
Rare Monro from a broadcast

and an unreleased version from a radio broadcast with Billy May and his Orchestra.

BUT there is only one known version from TV and this is from a show with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in 1982 called "The Big Ben Band Show" broadcast on new years eve. It was later re-broadcast the following year as 'Strike up the Band'

This performance is available on the DVD 'Portrait of Matt Monro'

I ike Shirley Bassey singing this, it's one of her very early Philips recordings.

Hi Richard,

The 1982 version, would that be the version on you tube, there is only one version.
