MAY NEWS from Michele
MAY NEWS from Michele
I just read Michele's news for May.........
I am happy to hear that she finally expelled the Pneumonia Bug....
She has a busy cruise schedule spreading the word about her talented father.....
The bad news was the announcement that the EMI/Parlophone buyout has caused
the elimination of many of Matt's wonderful CDs that she & Richard spent much of
their time to discover and rerecording for all of Matt's fans. I hope there can be
a solution to this tragic happening.....Let's cross our fingers, and pray!

What is the logic with the new record company deleting these CDs. Does it save them money? Are there ongoing licensing fees to be paid?
Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
Perhaps they could try deleting all of their catalogue and see how that goes as a business model.

Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
Nice to read the latest news update Michele and pleased to know that you are feeling better now that you are free from the bronchial pneumonia.
Disappointing that all the recent CDs have been taken over to by Universal, after all the discovering and hard work that went into them. Just crazy.
At least although on a selfish note we are just pleased to know that we have these gems

Glad to hear you are doing better Michele!
It's a bummer what's happening with Universal. I'm just glad a got these cd's when I could and that my Dad and I listen to them all the time. Though they have their own place of honour in his stereo cabinet, and I have to ask permission to borrow them!!
LOL!!

Logging on today, I find this site has been pushed to bottom of third page of Google; I almost thought it had been deleted!
Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
All those cruises sound wonderful.
What is not wonderful is the deletion of the best Matt Monro releases or I should say the best releases of any music in the past five years. It wouldn't bother me if a greatest hits compilation was deleted, but not the Rare Monro, Matt Uncovered, and the Complete Singles Collection. Those are fantastic.

Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
Another great newsletter from Michele.
Glad to read the cruises are proving to be a success and there are still more to come.
We hope you don't have to wait too long before you get a purchaser for your house - fingers crossed.
We were sorry to hear about the new titles being deleted from EMI's catalogue list and such a shame after all the hard work by Michele and Richard. As Richard says there doesn't seem to be any logic in it unless it is their intention perhaps in the future to re-issue them or sell them on to another record label.

Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
As it stands at the moment Universal MAY re-issue the titles themselves at some point - there is a sticking point with that though. around about half of the material belongs to PLG the rest to the BBC, the Monro Estate & Mood Media - all contract would have to be re-negotiated. In the case of Rare & Rarer only approx 15% of the material belongs to Capitol and with singles About 45% (when you include the Decca & Fontana singles)
The two other titles they have nabbed are "The Greatest" and "At the Movies" - as far as i'm concerned these titles are less important, but STILL contain less than half Capitol material.
If any of the titles contained more than 50% Capitol material then I could understand it, but with less they will be paying more royalties to PLG etc than they get themselves!
Hence no logic!
Hopefully the appeal will work in our favour.
If they want Matt Monro product at Universal they should talk to us - We've no shortage of ideas!

Re: MAY NEWS from Michele
Problem is at the moment we are not sure where they live and if we did I suspect they would then be 100 unlabelled doors and we wouldn't know which one to kick down - doesn't mean that we can't kick all of them down, but it does take a bit longer !
