I am selling several items of dad that are just laying in the vaults of a bank and I think it is time for them to have a better home. Having thought it through carefully I have decided to list them here first to give my website members first bite at the cookie rather than they go to a stranger.

The items are:

Choose the appropriate item you wish to bid on and place your bid. If when you open a header a person has already left a bid then you will have to bid more for it to count.

If the items do not reach their reserve - they will be entered into a worldwide auction on Ebay in the near future.

Will there be any everyday items offered? For example, a tie tac or bracelet that he liked to wear. A tea cup? Perhaps it's not particularly rare, priceless, or a present from a celebrity, but we would be interested in seeing (and possibly bidding on) those items too.

I have my father's first adult cutlery set, a silver knife and fork fruit set, his silver tea strainer and an antique silver fork and knife fish set that he cooked with. There are also umpteen other pieces of silver cutlery but I didn't think that would interest anyone as much.

There is also 2 silk handkerchiefs that he used on stage in his dress suit and on television and three ties

I think his first adult cutlery set would be nice to own as it is an early part of your dad's history. If I get outbid on the tie pin or can't reach the reserve, I would be interested in bidding for this.

As requested I have added a few more items, some of which were gifts to the family, some I don't the origin of and some are in need a very good polish as they have been stored for the last 25 years at least!!

Should us regular members have had first choice to bid on Mattts items. Now many other long lost members are coming out of the woodwork to bid on these items (not Paul and Sue or Anna though). Is that fair on us regular members, to be outbid by virtual forum strangers

Maybe emails could have been sent to all the members once the remaining unsold items were left

or even when the unsold items were going to be displayed on eBay..........................just a thought

This forum is open to everyone. All of the people bidding are fans and have been fans for some time. In fact some have been fans for over 40 years. They liaise with me on a regular basis by email and hard mail. Some do not have access to the internet and some are shy of using the forum,bthat is one of the reasons for me starting 'Friends of Matt Monro' but it doesn't give them any less right to bid.

I thought long and hard about whether to list these items on Ebay and be done with it but after careful consideration decided that the true fans had the right to bid without the rest of the world knowing (especially dealers).

Users of the forum are vetted daily by Marian and myself and there are no strangers or undesirables here. This is a private auction and I sent out a mail shot of 600 and invited them to vote if they wanted to. No one outside of the fan club knows about the auction.

I am only too happy that some have come out of their comfort zone to join up and bid.

Some of these items are worth a lot of money - the black/gold Dunhill is sold for over Â£300.00 and that is without the celebrity connotation but I started it out at a very low price so as not to put people off. This sale isn't only about money it is about the right person having an item that they will cherish because it belonged to dad.

I know what you are saying Michele, but if these non regular forum members do not have access to the internet, then how can they bid on Matts items, which they are now doing. Some appear to be able to log in and bid, but there has been no sign of them on here since the forum started, and they probably would have had internet access, as many joined the forum from the beginning. It would have been nice to see them earlier

Just a warning.... I have had a lot of private emails asking me when the auction is finishing and they have indicated they won't bid until the last minute. I don't want anyone to be upset if they get outbid at the eleventh hour because they thought their bid was safe, the other thing is anyone waiting until the last minute so as to keep the price low might not win because the reserve won't have been met. if you want an item then bid for it.

Also I must point out again that there are reserves placed on every item. Where the reserve has been met the word announcement precedes the description in the list. Once that message appears the item will be sold to the highest bidder.

This is one with silver edging so it makes you wonder what one with gold edging is worth.
