Oh dear--bad luck being ill on your birthday--have you had a flu jab? Our doctors surgery is so busy now--the queue goes out of the surgery, round the Health centre--all round the car park-it is crazy !!

Yes, we've had our flu jabs Marian. Just walked straight in! However it doesn't protect you against sons who come to stay with colds and coughs!
Atishoo! Hope you ducked.... despite this I had a very nice birthday thank you Robert xx

Sorry you had a cold for your Birthday Marian. Often happens when you don't want it.
We had our flu jabs last Saturday week. The queue was outside and a mile long but the minute the surgery opened they were so organised we were seen in no time. I've been sneezing and coughing ever since.

Oh Marian, so sorry to hear that. I'm glad you had a wonderful birthday regardless. Hope you feel better soon.
Re: special days in October
Thank you Lena and Harry and Eman. I'm getting better every day, just the cough in the night is getting me down a bit. It makes such a difference if you can get a good night's sleep.
Talking about the flu jabs, in our surgery they were also giving shingles jabs, but only to 70 years old and 79!
We didn't come into either category!

Marian, in my Mum and Dad's surgery, they always give the flu jab to the elderly and the sickly first. So yeah my folks qualify. I always make sure they get it or my sisters call them and tell them to just as a precaution. Though my Dad is the stubborn one, but then he's the first one to tell me to get the jab when it's available.
Re: special days in October
That's true over here too Eman, every elderly person is offered the flu jab and I believe children under five too at Lena's surgery. The shingles one is a new one to me, but it sounds as if they can't afford to vaccinate everyone yet.
Glad to hear your Mum and Dad have their jabs regularly Eman, do they have to pay for them though?

Re: special days in October
I had one several years ago Sandra, maybe at 66 too. I don't want to worry your friend but it made me very ill!
Re: special days in October
Yes Marian- she was very ill too!

Re: special days in October
I vaguely remember reading about a Shingles jab last year.
i know that Shingles can be very painful, but I do not know many people who had it.I do not have any jabs at all. I always had a flu jab when I was working, as they came round to our office.
But although my mum died from flu, i do not have the flu jab now--nor the pneumonia one---I had pneumonia when I was just a young baby.

Hi Marian! Yep Mum and Dad's jabs (shots here in the U.S.) are free because it's covered under their insurance plus my Dad and Mom have entitlements to medical care since he retired from the military so their medical issues are covered. It's only when they are referred to a civilian hospital that they have to pay a little co-pay. My jabs are free also because it's covered under my medical insurance. I'm kinda leery about that shingles shot, I'll have to ask my sister about it since she's a doctor. Though sometimes I find even if I got the jab, I would get the flu really bad for weeks on end and would just feel awful. I'd say what the heck was the point of the jab. Knock on wood I don't get it this year. Last worse case I had, it escalated into Bells Palsy and half my face froze but it's a good thing I went to the ER on time or it might have been permanent if I didn't get the meds.
