Matt's last recording?

Post by Wahzy » Thu Nov 14, 2013 4:29 pm

Hi Richard.

Out of curiosity what and when was Matt's last studio recording?

I'm guessing it's "I don't want to run your life" from Singles Collection as it's the last track? I'm probably wrong :)

Cheers,
Alex.

You are correct. You Bring Out The Best in Me and I Don't Want To Run Your Life were recorded on Saturday 7th July 1984.

If you are interested in Matt's recording sessions track down the Special edition of Michele's book which includes a second book by Michele & I with Matt's complete (known) recording sessions, discography, tv & radio performances etc - I say known because between the first and second print of this book we found the BBC Stereo Tests and the Mood Media recordings that appeared on Rarer Monro/Rarities, so you never know what will turn up

The set also includes a disc of rarities not found anywhere else.

I think Michele MIGHT have a few copies left but you'd need to ask.

Richard

We know that we don't have the information as to whether there will be more CDs in the future until you hear from the record company. If you ever do get the go-ahead we were just wondering if it would be possible for you to consider extracting some of the songs from DVDs that have never been released on a CD. For example Three Coins in the Fountain, Thanks and You Better Love Me While You May.

Also as an added bonus would it be possible for you to include The Lady is Is A Tramp from the TV programme of the same name. This is only a very short clip as we understand the full song was never recorded unfortunately.

If you are able to extract those songs from the DVDs, is it possible to do any sort of restoration to them? I'm guessing your starting point is with much lower quality sound.

Those 3 tracks are the ones I listen a lot. I also like that version of Yesterday from the Matt At The BBC DVD.

I love Matt singing Three Coins in the Fountain :D :D
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

The problem with issuing tracks from soundtracks is rights. The material from the short film (like Three Coins) are owned by french company Canal, Thanks is BBC and You Better Love Me While You May is ITN source. I think Lady Is A Tramp is Fremantle (who own the old Thames library).

It's not a bad idea for a compilation, but might well be a rights nightmare!

Some of the material that only exists on film might require some restoration but the sound quality on professional video tape is normally very good.

Thank you for the information Richard.

We wondered if the rights to any material would be a problem after all the problems you had with EMI/Universal. We can appreciate the frustration you and Michele must encounter whenever you want to do something that needs permission before you can undertake the project.

We live in hope they will co-operate "one day"
