TAX REFUND - HAS ANYONE RECEIVED THIS?

Post by karl » Mon Dec 09, 2013 11:54 pm

I received an email today in my Spam fold and wonder if is legitimate

The header is Sumbitt Tax Refund and goes on to say they have reviewed their records over the last seven years and I am due a refund of over £300.

This is all very nice but it goes on to ask your bank card number etc which made me rather suspicious, if I am due the refund why don't they just send it to my account, they already have the details as I just received my heating allowance a few weeks ago. It also states not to claim it by phone as the system can't cope.

Tomorrow I will either call or go to my local tax office and check but I wonderd if anyone else has received such an email and perhaps be careful not to divulge any bank detailas incase you fnd your account is wiped out.

this sounds like a typical scam email-ignore and delete it--it will not be genuine.

As soon as they ask for any details, beware.

They'll try anything Karl. We have had experiences of this kind with scam e-mails and even telephone calls. Anything from the government specially regarding tax of any kind would come officially by post. It's fatal to give your address or bank details to anyone by e-mail or over the phone. We just tell them to get lost .....in a polite way of course

I have printed out the email and will take it to the tax offiice today just to check - especially at thsi time of year they are maybe hoping to make a killing with vulnerable people.

I will keep you posted of the outcome.

Another point that made me think it might JUST be genuine was when they said tax returns over the last seven years - it was seven years ago I started working in M&S!!!

Anyway, off to the tax office shortly.

Watch this space!

Just back from the tax office.

It is indeed a scam and they confirmed the fact they do not email people but send letters, he also said their records do not go back seven years but four. I was given a print-out with an email address to forward this bogus email to.

I worked too long for evil B******S to take my money away from me, God knows the government got enough!!!!! If the people who are doing this have such a great brain why don't they have a proper job?

I feel sorry for people who may be taken in, it must be a heck of a shock realising your bank account has been emptied. It is also a cowardly act as you don't know who they are, too bad as I know what I'd like to do to them.

You know I just thought between this email and the one I had after the Glasgow tragedy (someone knew I was in Glasgow), it's getting like the tv series Person Of Interest. Is there a damn camera on me 24/7? If so here's a two finger salute!!!!!!
