Did anyone watch this last night? I am looking forward to the final part tonight.

Over the years David has really grown as an actor, in the early days I did not care much for him but the variety of roles he has played over the years surprised me - he can be very serious and also very funny as in the series Blackpool. I now think he is a very fine and versatile actor.

I quite agree,Karl.
He was excellent in the original State of Play alongside John Sim,too.

I am disappointed in David Nicholls,the screenwriter. The production is
touted as a modern-day take on Brief Encounter, my benchmark film for
how to show love on-screen.As I suspected,this first half mirrors the plot of the Eighties 'Falling in Love' with Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro,my second
benchmark etc...
That was made on the observation of the two actors obvious onscreen chemistry in the earlier The Deer Hunter,and is a beautifully paced interpretation of BE. Presumably why Nicholls has lifted numerous scenes and
plot-moves for his BBC effort.
Hoping for more tonight,but not holding my...single red rose.

Well, I did tape this, but did not have time to see it, so really hoping to catch up soon-but not sure when.

David Nichols also wrote the book "One Day" which was very successful, and even more successful as a film quite recently. I have it on my Kindle--but same story, cannot find the time to read it yet.

With that one,Marian I committed the cardinal sin of watching the film first.
Not wanting to spoiler alert,let me say read the (Kindle) if you've not viewed the film.I feel it would be easier to root for the protagonists on-page (as opposed to on-screen,not Kindle screen-see what technology does to us!) as
I found the easy-moneyed male lead rather false on celluloid.(probably not that anymore,either).

I do hope they show this in the U.S. I'm a big David Morrissey fan since Blackpool, State of Play, Basic Instinct 2 and the Doctor Who special. Ha ha Sheridan Smith, I only know her from last Christmas' Mr. Stink.

Lurkeo Don I love the Royle family ...when Denise is scared because she has gone into labour with baby David ...herself and Jim Royle do a very moving scene and tears me up Everytime ....and the scenes with Emma are so funny ...." All we've heard is Emma Emma ......" ...Anthony squirming with embarrassment ...such a clever programme ...

A friend of mine had a high profile job in London and retired - before he did they offered him a short term contract at footballers wages, when that ended they offered him another at a lesser wage and when that ended he got a job in Sydney for two years - that's why I was able to extend my stay there as he had an apartmenet overlooking Darling Harbour.

He is now properly retired and baby-sitting grandchildren on a semi-regular basis.

I also just realised I got the title of the play wrong it's The 7.39. anyway it was a great start to the 2014 and was so well cast.
