Judith Durham

Post by BarryS » Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:53 pm

Three of my favourite female artists of the 60's, 70's & beyond are Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter & Judith Durham, ooh I will mention Mary Hopkin also. Dusty & Karen are no longer with us, sadly & I know Mary Hopkin is alive & well...but what about Judith Durham..?
Of course she was the female voice of the original shortlived Seekers from Australia. She had a lovely voice but what became of her? Anybody know?

Our john, a big Seekers fan, may be able to help out on this :)

As far as I know Judith Durham is still around--but as Robertt says, John will probably know more about her.

She is still recording, in fact I think she is currently recording a new album. She still does the occasional tour, we went to see her in 2003 in Manchester and she was really good. I also saw her back in 1995 in Sheffield with The Seekers, that was fantastic. And at the end we got to meet them all backstage.

Fofrgot to mention, like you say Barry, The Seekers split in 1968, and went their separate ways, and reformed with a different female singer, then in 1993 they got back together with Judith for a series of concerts, made a couple of albums then went their seperate ways again.

Didn't realize they had reformed briefly, the female who replaced Judith would have needed to be a talent indeed, what an act to follow. :P

Judith does have her own website www.judithdurham.com and is currently offering downloads of acapella perfomances - ie he own unacompanied voice.

I am a seekers fan too and also saw them on their last UK tour in Manchester but never got to meet them - Blast!

I missed that last tour Richard, I didn't realise they were here until after they had appeared, I think it was about 7 or 8 years ago, wasn't it?

What was the name of the female singer who replaced Judith...........I can visualise her so clearly, with shoulder length blonde hair..............I have a feeling she was a singer with another band beforehand :) I think she sang the song I'd Like To Teach the World to Sing from the Coca Cola advert, or am I getting them mixed up  :)

Are you thinking of The New Seekers, Robert. This was one of their songs.

Keith Potger of the original Seekers formed The New Seekers, then went back to the original Seekers. Another female joined the group, and then she left, and then another female, before Judith rejoined in the early 90's for their reunion concerts.

I have just checked especially for you Robert.
Louisa Wisselling joined in 1975, then in the eighties Julie Anthony took over, then Karen Knowles. Judith rejoined in the nineties.
