Hi Guys,

I have received a complaint from someone who was offended by the Golf Joke from a few days ago.

I know it was only meant in fun but as it could been seen as racist I have removed it and any related posts.

Could everyone please consider carefully if a joke might be seen as potentially discriminatory or likely to offend. If in doubt don't post it. As a public forum, viewable by everyone member or none member, we can't take any risks in keeping posts like this on the site.

Hope you understand.

I think it is a matter for regret that the administrator has
thought it justifiable to uphold such a fatuous complaint.
I abhor racism; I have numerous black friends; one in
particular who is a long-standing teammate in table tennis
circles. I didn't see the joke I posted in a racial context
at all; however even when I do look at it through that
distorted prism, how can it be racist to portray a black
individual as the president of the world's most prestigious
links golf course?

Keith, You may not have seen it as racist, but others did including myself and I know Karl did as he commented as such.

I know you didn't mean it to be taken that way and nobody is suggesting that you are at all racist, just that some find the joke in poor taste so I removed it.

The joke implied that because the robot had become black they had suddenly taken on stereotypical traits of scroungers and layabouts. I'm sorry I can't see that as fatuous and it is not distorted in any way and if i remember correctly it said 'Thinks he's President' which would imply that they he was delusional.

I know many forums would remove things for much less. Sorry if you feel hard done to but no offence was meant to you it was removed purely to stop offence to others.

Yes and I would like it to be known that I emailed both Richard and Keith as I certainly did not make a complaint, I said I did laugh at the joke even although it was rather racist. Sometimes we tend to laugh at things we know we shouldn't.

Richard I am glad you agree as Keith can't accept that fact. I certainly would not repeat it to Madeline and risk losing a very valued friendship.

I agree with Robert. Please come back Keith, we miss you and your lovely poems and jokes. You have been the poet laureate of our forum for so long.
I enjoyed the joke as well, it was meant as only a joke, nothing more.
