The Butler was just ok for me Karl. Too much hype but for me didn't live up to it.

Thanks Eamon I wil maybe wait a few months then until Fopp have it for £3, that way it doesn't matter if you don't enjoy them as it's cheaper than the cinema.

Hi Sandra

Thanks for replying, I will give 'The Book Thief' a go with the children, I think.
It might do them good to watch a film that has historical importance!

Eman,

Not had chance to see The Monuments Men :(
It hasn't done very good business over here and has already left most of my local cinemas after only several weeks :(
Looks like it will be a dvd for me!

Bernadette Peters In Concert at Royal Festival Hall.

I almost forgot I had this so it was good to see it again, what a wonderful performer she is and the audience loved her.

Felt like watching Blue Hawaii starring Elvis tonight. Somehow I never get tired of this movie no matter how many times I've seen it. Same with his other movies such as Girls, Girls, Girls, King Creole, G.I. Blues and Paradise Hawaiian Style.

I watched J Edgar with Leonardo Di Caprio, found it dull.

I quite liked J.Edgar, Karl.
I thought it was shot very well.
But it was slow moving, I agree. :)

Another film I watched over the weekend that was nicely photographed was 'The Lion', starring William Holden and a very young Pamela Franklin, made in 1962.
It was about a young girl who lived in Africa and befriended a whole range of animals, including a huge lion.
It was really nice, the type of film that just doesn't get made anymore.

That type of film does get made Gray, checkout Haachi A Dog's Tale starring Richard Gere, it's based on a true story and it's a beautiful film.

Hi Karl

Yes, I've seen that film.
But, don't you think they are few and far between....?

Maybe it's just me!

Yes I suppose they are Gray, it is nice to watch a good wholesome film though instead of all the four letter words or violent scenes.

Did you ever watch Glengarry Glen Ross? It was full of wonderful actors but every other word was F, they could not say a sentence without using that word at least twice.

Bring back The Waltons & Little House On The Prairie!

Yes, Karl, I remember seeing Glengarry Glen Ross at the cinema.
An elderly couple sat in front of me walked out after a while, I think the swearing really began to upset them.
Yet, that film is rated '15' in the UK, (ie suitable for school children).

In fact, the British Board of Film Classification has announced an even more liberal approach to swearing from now on. They perform a survey every five years or so and 'us adults' have said we generally do not find strong language offensive and it is just how people 'talk' nowadays.
Only very young children (i.e. five years and under) should be protected from hearing it.

Hi Gray and Karl, you aren't alone. I think it is few and far between that movies such as The Lion and A Dog's Tale aren't made anymore. It seems that if a film doesn't have a lot of swearing, unnecessary over done sex scenes, violence, the movie will flop!! UGH.. whatever happen to go old story telling?

Eamon I think nowadays the movies rely too much on noisy special effects instead of good acting.

There is no need for constant swearing and it is not the normal practice of most people.
