Ah, so that explains confusion re "My funny Valentine".

And yes, the last verse was from "Give me the simple life", and I do not think it was on the Sinatra Album.

The verse started with "Folks are blessed...etc etc",

And the main part of the song was "Some find it pleasant...etc etc."

Your turn now Harry and Lena.

Ok, here we go with a lovely golden oldie!!

Everything Went Wrong
I Feel So Blue
For The Longest While
I Forget To Smile
Then I Met You,
Now That My Blue Days Are Past
Now That I've Found You At Last.

Hi Lena and Harry--not 100% sure about this one--is it "Always"---as in "I'll be loving you, always".

Yes, "I'll Be Loving You Always "that's the one Marian,
One favourite version that we have is Roger Whittaker's

Your turn Marian :)

Hi Harry and Lena---we were always very fond of Roger Whittaker singing "Durham Town " and "The Last Farewell"--They were included on a "Car compilation" so heard them lots of times, but never tired of them. Funnily enough , Roger Whittaker was on TV last night--"The Story of Light Entertainment"---did you see it---the first half was very nostalgic indeed, but I did not really like the 2nd half--and no mention of Matt.

Anyway-here is my next verse----as well as being one of my fave verses, it is also one of my fave songs

Each time I look at you
Is like the first time
Each time you're near me
The thrill is new
And there is nothing
That I wouldn't do for
The rare delight of the sight
Of you for....

Hi Marian, we intended watching the Light Entertainment programme but were carried away with The Maria Sound Of Music programme and forgot.

Anyway Marian, the verse is also one of our favourites too.
" THE MORE I SEE YOU."

Here's another great song...
What Care I Who Makes The Laws Of A Nation.
Let Those Who Will Take Care Of It's Rights And Wrongs
What Care I Who Cares For The Worlds Affairs.
As Long As I Can Sing This Popular Song....

HI Lena and Harry---it sounds like "Rule Brittania" or something similar with that verse---at the moment, I have not got a clue.

That opening verse is from Let Me Sing And I'm Happy, which Matt Monro sings so perfectly on the Heart Of The Man CD. Thanks, Lena and Harry, for finally submitting an easy one!

I've been anxious to submit this verse, which is one of the best of the past 20 years. Since it's recent, even Robert should know it; so please Marian, give the poor chap a chance. I'm sure you will instantly know it, Marian.

"And now I'm all alone again
Nowhere to turn, no one to go to,
Without a home, without a friend
Without a face to say hello to
But now the night is near
And I can make believe he's here.

Sometimes I walk along at night
When everybody else is slepping
I think of him and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed
And I can live inside my head."

Hi Paul and everyone. I DO recognise the verse, but I cannot put a name to the tune, as usual in this topic   Just not my cup of tea old boy, sorry for the tea pun :)

I watched the "Story of Light Entertainment" for a couple of weeks hoping for a mention of Matt, but to no avail :x :x I missed last nights show as I was out.

If Paul wonders who Roger Whittaker is, he is better known as a fabulous WHISTLER, as well as a singer. Going back a few years, a friend who used to go on a regular morning run, had two particular artists to listen to going through the earpiece of his "walkman". He said both artists gave him the encouragement needed for his runs, Roger Whittaker was one and Kate Bush and her album "Hounds of Love" being the other   What do you listen to Lena and Harry during you're morning runs
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hi Paul--yes I do know your one, I am pretty sure. It is from a musical show I believe---not ALW--but a beautiful song--and an amazing show.

I wont give the name of it yet, because Robert may get it now.

Okay, Robert -- the verse guessing is now open to Marian and everyone else!

Of course, I know Roger Whittaker. I used to listen to a Canadian radio station to hear good music (just like all of you listened to Radio Luxembourg). They played The Last Farewell, and it became one of my favourite songs. I also liked New World In The Morning and Mammy Blue (popular by a group in the US, I can't remember the name now, perhaps the Pop Tops?). But The Last Farewell is simply special; I love to listen to it when it's dark and stormy.

Hello everyone. I'm back again, have just been on the phone, but guess what, yes I still can't get it   Just no good with verses, but if someone gave the opening line of the song, I might have a chance   Is the song from "Carousel" as that has a sad ending. But Paul says it is one of the best verses over the past 20 years or so :? :?
Paul you seem to have some rather strange listening habits, as you seem to have a certain song for just about every different moment, or occasion :!:
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

No, it's not from Carousel. As you know, that musical is over 50 years old.

This non-ALW musical debuted in the early to mid 1980s.

Okay, it's open for everyone to guess. (Eventually, I'll think of a song that Robert will know.)

Yes Robert, I do have a song for just about everything! That reminds me ... I haven't listened to Boney M's Hooray Hooray It's a Holi-Holiday this summer. I love to listen to that song on a happy sunny summer day. Thanks for the reminder! And I'm looking foward to the Boney M tribute musical coming to the West End soon!

" On My Own"
