My has had a small seizure
My has had a small seizure
Having a strong cup of tea my doggy has had a small seizure this afternoon ...she was very disoriented ..my son has epilepsy ( controlled thank God) so I know the symptoms ...she was looking everywhere and not seeing if that makes sense ...we are getting her to vet tonight after ringing them for advice....they said any dog can have one fit and no more and is more common in dogs than cats...my son was upstairs as he off from uni and I did not want to stress him ....I've told him now but i didn't him ....it brought it all back when my son had his first one 11 years ago....just awful .....will let you know what vet does ...possible blood tests and a tablet incase another episode that is more severe .....I'm praying she has no more
Softly, I will leave you softly
For my heart would break if you should wake and see me go.....

Re: My has had a small seizure
Sorry to hear about your dog Maxine, I hope all is well when you go the vets tonight. How old is she, she looks young in your photo.
So sorry your son has epilepsy, but as you say it can be really well controlled.
My grandson had an episode when he was a baby that was caused by him being too hot, and has never had another, thank goodness.
I think I'll join you with a cuppa now. Hope the news is good tonight. xx

Re: My has had a small seizure
Thankyou Marian and Karl ....she is nine in august ....waiting for Pete and then we take her ....she is doing everything normal now ...barking eating toiletting etc .. Thank you for your concern ...she was definitely disoriented ....it is frightening in children and adults Marian...should be seen about 6.30ish .......I wouldn't wish epilepsy on anybody ...when we asked nurse first time Adam had a fit if hereditary she said only on maternal side....well I found out that my Dad's mother used to have them ...( info after dad passed as she left the family home when Dad little) ...but that is paternal side of course....my dad's sis said ( she lost contact with him for forty years until ten years before he passed) her biggest fear was her children would get them but they didn't and was so upset for me when she knew Adam has them but ....thank God he is controlled ...(needs tablets probably for rest of his life ...) ....his life is normal and we are sooooo thankful for this ....I had all those sticky feelings come back at the memories of Adams first one....we thought he was choking as I had just given him his dinner and my eldest shouted Mum Adams choking ..luckily peter was home and he tried to pat his back but Adam went blue and we thought the absolute worst....he then fell to floor and started shaking .... Docs said sometimes people can have one and then never again so no tablets at first ...then a month later in Spain he stepped out of shower and pointed ( some people with epilepsy do this) and fell to ground again ...we immediately called doc and said we could go home if he wanted or stay as we only had three days ...Adam wanted to stay ..he was only 13 at the time ....trips to neurologist recommend but my friend managed to get his dosage under control and as the dosage increased full and absent seizures (like pebbles had ) dissapeared .....the absent seizures had Adam walking around with his head shaking and saying ...what's happening what's happening! He came running down the stairs like it so everytime the boys ran down the stairsfor a while our hearts were in our mouths....thank you again and I will let you know asap what vet says for now......xx

Hope she will be o.k. Maxine.
Re: My has had a small seizure
Sorry i rant to say sticky feeling...neurologist said very common in teens but can grow out of them by the time they get to 21 ...he tried to ween off tablets but was with friends and had another fit .....his friends were fantastic and brought him home to me in car ....he looked drunk but that is the after affect ...along with needing to sleep and bad headache afterwards ....the girls said they all screamed and it was very difficult to watch somebody you care having a fit ......i treated them to choc sand some beers ....it seems that heat can trigger Adams when not on tablets and lack of sleep ....even bullying and grief can trigger these in youngsters

Re: My has had a small seizure
Maxine I can sense your stress in your emails but you need to calm yourself.
I always thinks it's a shame when an animal is sick as they can't tell you what's wrong with them.
I remember years ago in Boston my friends cat was chewing on the leaves we had discarded from the corn and mewing away to us, we thought it was funny and were talking back to him but the next thing hejthrew up, he must have been chewing on the leaves to make himself sick. Animals are not daft, same thing with my sister's dog Amber years ago, she was rarely ill but they visited us with her and whenever she came in she was jumping up to me and giving me paws and actng out of character - next thing she was sick too but was fine right after, it's their way of telling us but being human we don't understand but I knew her well enough to know something was up,
I hope all goes wll at the vets Maxine.

Update vet says nothing wrong with pebs
Eyes and epilepsy usually starts within 5

Eschemic episode which is neurological
We have to keep watch next 48 hrs and note
Anything unusual again and take back
Saturday .. Vet said ring anytime worried
Eve. Out of hours etc .. She barking like a
Gooden at the moment lol waggy tail etc and
Now she can see daddy with chips xx

Re: My has had a small seizure
With my nurse hat on, 'Ischaemic' Maxine, caused by a minor disruption of the blood flow to the brain, like fainting. It probably won't occur again. I'm so pleased she is back to normal now, I expect she was confused when it happened, but it wouldn't have had any lasting effects.
