May I be permitted to inject some moderating comments
into the hysteria surrounding Susan Boyle? There are millions
of singers around the world as who sing as superbly as
the lady from Scotland but will never achieve stardom.
Other elements such charisma, style, stage presence,
good looks et cetera are also indispensable prerequisites.
Eg You know who.
It has been reported that she entered her local talent contest
every year from 1995 to 2001 but never won.
I don't mean to rain on her parade; good luck to her, I hope
I am wrong; however my guess is that she will turn out to be
a shooting star that quickly fizzles out ...

I'm with Keith on this. Susan Boyle presumably has some talent (though I've not seen her performance) but I'm pretty sure she will turn out to be a nine-day wonder, as there is only so long that a novelty performer (middle-aged, unglamorous etc) can sustain public interest. She reminds me of Michelle McManus, who won Pop Idol in 2003 and was hailed at the time to have "broken the mould" and to have shown that you didn't need to be glamorous to be a success - and where is she now?
I don't wish to be a wet blanket either, but I'm with Keith and Jon on this one.
She has a good voice I agree, but I feel this continual praise and enthusiasm is somewhat over the top.
In fact, I am quite "Boyled over" with it all.
I also feel it is unfair to the other contestants in the show, some of whom are very young, and some we haven't even seen yet.

I think that Susan has given a lot of hope to people , who like her , may have a good voice, but do not have the supposed "good looks" to go with it. I actually just saw a recent photo of Susan in a white blouse, leather jacket and new hairstyle, and she looked very nice--the show's producers are tearing their hair out as they wanted her to stay the same, for the duration of the show.
There is no way that Susan , or anyone, could have anticipated this astounding interest in her, so I imagine she is as bemused as anyone. I think the song she chose----"I dreamed a dream " had a lot to do with it-apart from being a beautiful song, I guess we can all relate to "Dreaming a Dream ".
I think all the episodes were filmed some time ago--[re Kelly Brook] so I do not think her performance will affect those that are still to come.
In the end, it is the public who decide, and while I agree we have already seen some talented youngsters, I think that this is Susan's time, and I hope she makes the most of it .

Susan's career may not last years, but her CD will sell millions worldwide, it will make her a millionaire too, so some good will have come to her. I'll be so very pleased for her too, even if she just has her 15 minutes in the limelight

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Jamie had a really nice voice-and coincidentally another song from "Les Miserables"
I think Jamie's big problem is going to be his nerves--he looked desperately uncomfortable, and even afterwards found it hard to smile.
Compare to Susan, although she had failed auditions before, and she must have sensed that the judges and audience were expecting nothing from her--but she showed no sign of nerves whatsover--very confident.

would like to be a Londoner
there are times when I wish I lived in London, just so I could be a part of the conversation... regarding British Has Talent... Unfortunately we do not get the program here... I saw Susan Boyle because she was the "rage" (and rightfully so) on the early morning NBC or ABC and also the little girl singing " I could have danced all night" I have not seen Jamie who you refer to... I might ask, does Simon fly a private jet to and fro for British Has Talent and then here in the states for American IHow dol ?? You all seem to be having so much fun talking about the show Isn't the Forum great for everyone Happy May 2nd.....
Hi Robert--no, I was not actually one of the "Knitting Ladies"-I do not do "Finger knitting"-in fact have never heard of it!
But I bet I could have done a better job than those 3 on stage--we needed less Knitting and more Natter-----But it has given me an idea for the next series of BGT---
"Crochet and Chatter !"
