My computer.

Post by mariana44 » Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:26 pm

I do not know if I am putting a jinx on this, but this is the first time that I have been back on the forum, and having it behave as normal--no waiting half hour to reply to a post, no keep signing on again, no strange log in page-no losing the connection hsalf way through----maybe AOl, have been working behind the scenes---or maybe it was me buying and fitting 2 new filters, also a new modem connection cable. Who knows---but it has been a long long time since my computer has been "normal ". The message is--do not believe them when they say you need an engineer at £50.00 a time, even when they admit that there is a problem with the line. ...

Just as well you manage to fix it yourself with the filters.

I was with AOL years ago but they were a pain, L&H you mentioned changing to BT they are ok but can also be a bit of a pain at times, I suppose none of them are without a problem now and then.

I have still been having big problems with my computer !!! Despite the new filters and new modem cable.

But hooray--I manged to fix it today---everything is back as normal--keeping all fingers crossed.

My sister gave me the idea---when we were talking last night, I mentioned that I could not even use Google Chrome ass all i was getting was pop up adverts etc etc. So jill said why noy try uninstalling google, then reinstalling.

Which I intended to do today, but before that I checked out what else was on my control panel , and i found about half a dozen programmes , all relating to adware, none of which I had put on myself, but they had got there somehow--so I just uninsttalled them, and hey presto--all back to normal !!!

But what is so annoying, is that . although i must have spent overall about 5 hours talking to aol , and I mentioned the problem with Google, they gave no indication , that this could be causing my problem !!! They are supposed to be the experts-not me or Jill !!!

it just shows that it is worth persevering !!!

What virus protection are you using Marian? They sound useless, as they allowed these adware programmes to get on your system.

Good old AOL--just billed me more than £7.00 for phone calls relating to problems with my Internet connection---after advising me to changev filters a week after I had already done that--and basically not doing an ounce of good. !!

Luckily I sorted it out myself--I might have needed to sell my computer to pay the phone bill to get it right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All my phone calls go via AOL which is via talk talk---not BT---as I get a good deal from aol for my broadband and phone package---All my phone calls are free apart from premium numbers--o845...etc---and as their helpiline is 0845--I get charged for it.

Ah! I see, so that's the sweetener - free phone calls as their computer system is useless?

I now get free calls from BT, don't know why. Awhile back I called to enquire about something and this guy was so helpful and gave mem this amazing deal. I can make calls to the UK anytime and it costs me nothing, I keep thinking one day they are going to send me a huge bill but no - the bills have been far less since then - YEAH!!!! :D

I think there are a lot of good deals about at the moment-especially if you do a Broadband/ phone package.

I have been tempted to change from AOl, but I have been with them from my first computing days, many years ago. It is quite different to another provider, and I guess I am just used to it.
