John Wilson Orchestra Sinatra, on the Proms.

Post by Marian » Sat Aug 08, 2015 10:40 am

Anyone catch Friday Night on the Proms last night? The great John Wilson Orchestra and guests performing a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
Wonderful concert! :D

I did watch it Marian. Brilliant John Wilson Orchestra and Seth Macfarlane, Jamie Parker and Claire Martin great singers.
In fact I watched BBC 4 from 7.30. Enjoyed it all. :)

I though the show was rather average, Jamie Parker (never heard of him before) had more life in his singing than Seth - however the song choice I found rather strange.
I felt they would have been better showing the real Frank Sinatra in concert, none of them came close to his charisma and style, all during the show I was wishing Jack Jones was a guest.

Karl, Seth Macfarlane has appeared on other shows with John Wilson and while he has a pleasant voice to listen to I agree Jamie Parker put more style and enthusiasm in to his songs.
We can't have the real thing, so who they really need is Steven Triffit up there. The nearest that we've seen to The Governer.

L&H yes I've seen Seth with John Wilson on other shows, I don't know the other singer you mentioned but I think instead of Seth, Lance Ellington would have been a better choice. I have seen Lance twice onstage and he's really good and he can swing too

Seth MacFarlane is the lead actor/voice on the animated series Family Guy.......he swears continuously during the programme

Do we presume they were all American singers?

As you probably know L and H John and I would have chosen Matt Ford

Jamie Parker and Claire Martin are from the UK Sandra and both already have a history of experience , and yes Matt Ford would have been perfect, but perhaps he was busy doing other things at the time, and Lance Elliot, son of Ray Ellington is definitely another to consider.
At the end of the day, we have to be grateful for concerts such as these.

Quite right Lena and Harry. My favourite singer in the programme was Jamie Parker. :D

Yes Jamie impressed me the most. So how come I've never heard of him before?

We hadn't heard of Jamie Parker either Karl. Surprising what talent there is, ..or I should say anyone who knows how to put a decent song over these days. but there is more to come.
There was a Proms concert on the radio that was broadcast a few nights ago, that is being shown on BBC 4 On the 28th August. Clare Teal is appearing with the Guy Barker and Winston Rollins orchestras with singers Jamie Davis and Elaine Delmar.
Tributes to Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey

I think Michele was on a cruise with Elaine a couple of years ago, but Michele couldn't recall Elaine's name from the past
